(Nov. 13, 2024) — At approximately 3:24 p.m. EST, President-Elect Donald J. Trump announced on TruthSocial the nomination of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL1) for U.S. Attorney General.

“It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States,” Trump wrote. “Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice.”

Gaetz is serving his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, his website states, and hosts a radio program, “Firebrand with Matt Gaetz.”

In 2021 the House Ethics Committee and Justice Department opened respective investigations into allegations Gaetz engaged in “sexual misconduct and illicit drug use.”

Gaetz has denied all of the allegations.

The committee delayed its probe at Justice’s request, then resumed it in June after the DOJ chose not to prosecute.

In a June 18, 2024 statement the committee wrote:

Representative Gaetz has categorically denied all of the allegations before the Committee.  Notwithstanding the difficulty in obtaining relevant information from Representative Gaetz and others, the Committee has spoken with more than a dozen witnesses, issued 25 subpoenas, and reviewed thousands of pages of documents in this matter.  Based on its review to date, the Committee has determined that certain of the allegations merit continued review.  During the course of its investigation, the Committee has also identified additional allegations that merit review.

Accordingly, the Committee is reviewing allegations pursuant to Committee Rules 14(a)(3) and 18(a) that Representative Gaetz may have:  engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, accepted improper gifts, dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct.  The Committee will take no further action at this time on the allegations that he may have shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe or improper gratuity.

The Committee notes that the mere fact of an investigation into these allegations does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred.  No other public comment will be made on this matter except in accordance with Committee rules.

Gaetz has been a strong Trump supporter and began his political career in 2011 in the Florida House of Representatives.

In response to Trump’s announcement, Gaetz wrote on X, “It will be an honor to serve as President Trump’s Attorney General!”

Sorry if hearing this troubles anyone, but my PROFESSIONAL OPINION (as a retired 30+ year law enforcement and criminal court officer) is that President-Elect Trump’s appointment choice for Attorney General, Matt Gaetz, who reportedly has just RESIGNED from Congress (ostensibly to prevent being further investigated) will NOT be confirmed for the AG. For whatever it is worth, though, I am very pleased with everything else being done by DJT, presumably together with J D Vance and others acting as advisors, at this early time in their forthcoming administration. This was my 3rd time voting for Donald Trump. I think he may be our divided and failing country’s only hope. May God Bless all. Tom Arnold.

Hi Tom,

Does the ethics investigation into Gaetz have any merit to the allegations? Or is it one of those enhanced set of allegations and charges to get Gaetz smeared in Congress, in a similar way that the far-left, and even some RINOS, have gone after Donald Trump to smear and tar-and-feather Trump with all sorts of “trumped up” criminal charges and all kinds of unethical and unsavory things being brought up by women to smear Trump’s character. As I see it, Gaetz was not too well liked in the good-old-boy, uni-party establishment political circles in DC. And I’m sure they were out to get him. In his own way, Gaetz, shook things up and forced change which did not earn him a fan club in Congress. And I could easily see how someone or some persons could have made allegations to get Gaetz by trying to smear his character too with ethics charges. So, what do you know about the allegations brought against Gaetz that the ethics committee was looking at. And do those charges have any solid, real merit to them? The timing of the Ethics Committee’s sudden proposed decision a couple days after Trump selected Gaetz to be the new AG to release their investigation report which has been going on for years, looks very much like an effort to torpedo him from getting that job as AG. It’s the old 50% will believe it and 50% will not if the Ethics Committee was about to release a really “juiced-up” salacious report on Gaetz and his quickly resigning was thus obviously done to preclude a very “juiced up” report being released about him after the committee sat on it for years. So the why now to me is that the establishment is afraid of Gaetz and what he could expose about them if became AG, so give the media something very salacious to run with to try and stop Gaetz from getting that job. Maybe another lookalike to the very salacious “pee-tapes”, but very false charges about alleged Trump activities in a Russian hotel room with ladies of the night, which was made about Trump, that the mainstream media drummed on and on about to try and destroy Trump’s character. So its now Gaetz that the DC uni-party establishment probably wants to totally destroy. Again, the timing to release it all very quickly now, after his selection to be the new AG, after the committee was sitting on whatever they had prepared and were hanging over Gaetz like a political “Sword of Damocles” for years, is very telling imo. All JMHO.

Trying to find out more about the news in current events about Gaetz since he was selected to be the new AG, I found this lengthy but informative news story done in 2022 by NBC about the investigation started in 2020 by the DOJ regarding the very damning allegations made by a a disgraced elected tax official in FL against Gaetz.

Lengthy, but worth reading imo to get a better picture of what the allegations entail beyond the headline of the charges. See: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/justice-departments-sex-trafficking-investigation-rep-matt-gaetz-seems-rcna49229

If true, a really fatal blow to the reputation and character of most people and usually to the political career of most politicians. As I said, with a charge like that made by someone against another, 50% of the people will believe it and 50% won’t no matter what the truth of the allegation is. But such tactics did not work against Trump. Will they work against Gaetz in Trump’s efforts to make him the new AG to clean house in that agency. Time will tell.

Gaetz has consistently denied the charges which were apparently dropped by the DOJ after their investigations could not find any credibility with the man bringing the allegations, but were then brought up in the House Ethics Committee for investigation over a period of many years by people out to get Gaetz due to his disruptive political actions in Congress against the establishment in both parties. It all has now been suddenly, quickly resurfaced by the Ethics Committee and is now in all the headlines in the mainstream news, upon Gaetz being selected to be the new AG. The uni-party establishment in DC are literally terrified of the aggressive and formidable Gaetz becoming the new AG.

Matt Gaetz is from my adopted state of Florida, where Matt is pretty well received.

For all his questionable personal lifestyle goings-on, it appears that Matt has a mind all his own, like Donald Trump, and neither of them will surrender to woke puppetry like disgraced General-treason Milley, or AG-weasel Merrick Garland or AG-quisling William Barr or AG-criminal Eric Holder or AG-nepotism Robert Kennedy, et al.

General-President Washington created USA with “An American Revolution”
Developer-President Trump will hopefully save USA with “An American Renovation”
Thomas Paine galvanized the colonials with his “Common Sense” pamphlet
Matt Gaetz will hopefully galvanize U.S. citizens with his common sense jurisprudence
