(May 26, 2021) — In a lengthy blog post Tuesday at his virtual “Desk” on his political website, 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump apparently responded to the news that Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. has convened a “special” grand jury purportedly to examine evidence of criminality involving the Trump Organization.
According to USAToday, Vance, an elected official, is not seeking another term.
“This is a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in American history,” Trump began Tuesday’s final commentary which followed numerous other posts. “It began the day I came down the escalator in Trump Tower, and it’s never stopped. They wasted two years and $48 million in taxpayer dollars on Mueller and Russia Russia Russia, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, and it continues to this day, with illegally leaked confidential information.”
The media was quick to seize upon the news and speculate as to any charges arising against Trump and/or members of his multi-billion-dollar enterprise. According to The Washington Times, a single individual “familiar with the matter” informed the AP of the grand-jury development, while The Washington Post, which was first to report the claim but whose work is behind a paywall, reportedly cited “two unnamed” sources of its information.
Throughout the “Russia” investigation to which Trump alluded, the media stoked the claim that Trump and his 2016 campaign associates had “colluded” with the Kremlin to win the election, only to have Special Counsel Robert Mueller report in March 2019 that his probe found no substantiation for the claim.
The initial allegation emanated from Christopher Steele of Fusion GPS, which the DNC and Hillary Clinton campaign commissioned to perform opposition research on Trump, and were furthered by members of the Obama State Department, some members of Congress and the top echelons of the FBI and Justice Department.
Expressing himself in the present-perfect tense rather than past tense, Trump continued with, “No other President in history has had to put up with what I have had to, and on top of all that, I have done a great job for our Country, whether it’s taxes, regulations, our Military, Veterans, Space Force, our Borders, speedy creation of a great vaccine (said to be a miracle!), and protecting the Second Amendment.”
He referred to the news of Vance’s reported convening of a grand jury as “purely political, and an affront to the almost 75 million voters who supported me in the Presidential Election,” and said the move is “being driven by highly partisan Democrat prosecutors.”
As for his former home and place of business, Trump wrote, “New York City and State are suffering the highest crime rates in their history, and instead of going after murderers, drug dealers, human traffickers, and others, they come after Donald Trump.”
Changing the subject briefly, he then wrote, “Interesting that today a poll came out indicating I’m far in the lead for the Republican Presidential Primary and the General Election in 2024,” likely referring to a recent poll by McLaughlin & Associates.
Trump concluded his thoughts with, “Our Country is broken, our elections are rigged, corrupt, and stolen, our prosecutors are politicized, and I will just have to keep on fighting like I have been for the last five years!”
When radio host Dan Bongino asked Trump on the launch of his new show Monday if he plans to run for president in 2024, Trump responded, “We are going to make you very happy…We’re going to do the right thing.”
