(Jul. 8, 2025) — “Cherokee (Indian Love Song)” (3:03)
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to ‘The Pulse of the Nation,’ the place to hear it here first. Tonight’s featured guest is our favorite American, Chief New Leaf. Welcome back to ‘Pulse,’ the most popular information show in its time slot. How have you been, Chief?”
“How.”
“You’ve been ‘how?’ What’s that?”
“White man speak with forked tongue. Sure, we sign treaty so you won’t ambush us like at Wounded Knee or give us smallpox-infested blankets, but we still scalp you at our casinos, but we don’t call them that.”
“Then what do you call them?”
“Gold mines, but comfortable ones, plenty of parking and A/C. Piece of cake, white man so stupid. We have games that we pay out but it’s not our money that gets paid out; it’s their money. But I’m not here to talk philosophically about gambling licenses from the state or betting in general.”
“What do you want to talk about?”
“I want to talk about, sure, we sign treaty but it didn’t include poisoning our water with DIQUAT. And another thing.”
“Excuse us while we pause for this short commercial break.”
“Kind of a Drag” (2:08)
“You were saying?”
“You can’t poison our water and not poison your own water; doesn’t work that way. Fish, birds, cattle and all mammals need fresh clean water. Water either goes to the sea or down to a water table. Water changes shape but cannot be destroyed and once it’s polluted, it’s useless. Water, fresh water, is your most precious resource, more precious than gold and diamonds, more precious than life itself.”
“That is true, but why tell us the obvious?”
“Because the chemical industry is poisoning you and ‘‘evasive species’ by poisoning all, turtles to mayflies and other living organisms, making our world a dead wasteland, like what East Palestine, Ohio has become.”
“But why?”
“Good question. The answer is a timeless equation: greed plus stupidity equals selfishness that we can define as the absence of obligation towards future generations. These people are the lowest of the low, those who strip-mine and clear-cut, living beyond the constraints of morality, such as those who are afflicted with TDS, ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome.’”
“People are deranged, for sure.”
“Rhymes with ‘insane.’ I contend that poisoning the water — oops — ‘evasive herbivore grub,’ is insane, and we sane people should not allow insane people to kill us by poisoning our water, understand?”
“Understood.”
“Good. I have spoken.”
“And off he goes. Well, this is Henry thanking you for, hopefully, paying attention. Contact your town, city or state government to put a stop to poisoning the whole darn world. Goodnight.
“Good show, but if only we can stop the insanity. I’m having ‘worms on the rotisserie’ with grated Gruyère and a side of escargot in swamp water. What are you having?”
“I Got the Blues” (4:52)
