So, “Nick Kyrgios has many haters!” is the theme/opinion of many modern-day reporters/journalists, sub-editors and editors?
Wrong! Yes, the mercurial, brilliant Kyrgios is disliked by so many (including this parent, grand- and great-grandparent writer); however, what is so greatly detested is the official acceptance and pandering to — even by Tennis Australia, and now Wimbledon 2023! — vile spitting, both at Wimbledon (“…swift recovery, and come back next year, Nick”), and then later in the US towards spectators; foul language (even in the presence of so very British royalty) and breaking Wimbledon’s rules (thus contract) by wearing coloured apparel when accepting the All England Tennis Club’s $1,550,00 million Wimbledon’s “Gentlemen’s Singles” Runner-Up’s prize!
Wimbledon’s 2023 pandering to appalling 2020 behaviour of terrifying a US ball boy (Kyrgios style) is beyond belief! There’s no doubt many world-class male tennis players have battled mental illness challenges; however, they’ve always battled on…remaining “Gentlemen!” So, Tennis Australia and Wimbledon, please don’t let such officially accepted, appalling – year in, and year out! – behaviour examples taint talented youngsters’ futures with such “un-gentlemanly” conduct!
