(Sep. 28, 2022) — On Wednesday morning, 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump not only advised U.S. “leadership,” but also offered to be part of a “group” to respond to what many say was sabotage of the two Nord Stream pipelines south of Denmark and Finland owned by Russia.
On Tuesday night, Tucker Carlson began his show with a segment on the “environmental catastrophe” which he reported was “pouring millions of cubic meters of natural gas into the Baltic Sea,” creating a “toxic bubble field” which Carlson said “was not an accident.”
“Swedish officials recorded two powerful undersea explosions,” Carlson said, after which the pipelines “began leaking in three separate places.”
“This was an act of industrial terrorism,” Carlson said, quoting a translation from Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who called the incident “an act of sabotage.”
“The leaks were detected by Sweden’s Maritime Authority and the Danish Energy Agency, shortly after bubbles were seen developing at the surface of the ocean, above the pipelines,” Newsweek reported Wednesday morning.
As far as the cause, Carlson said, “The prime suspect is obvious…that would be Vladimir V. Putin,” a theory The Washington Post and Twitter, Carlson said, quickly embraced. However, Carlson questioned the theory given that in light of the upcoming winter and the prolonged Ukraine-Russia war, “Europe needs your energy” and it would make no sense for Russia to have “sabotaged” its own pipeline. “It is true that blowing up Nord Stream does not help Vladimir Putin; he would not do that; why would he?” Carlson asked. Carlson continued, displaying video of White House occupant Joe Biden: “But that doesn’t mean that other countries wouldn’t consider doing it…because at least one of them has said so in public. In early February, less than three weeks before the war in Ukraine began, Joe Biden suggested on camera that he might take out these pipelines.”
“If Russia invades, that means tanks or troops crossing the border of Ukraine, again, then there will be, there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it.” Biden said at a press conference.
When a reporter asked how that would be done “since the project and control of the project is within Germany’s control?”
“I promise you we’ll be able to do it,” Biden responded.
Carlson’s video included a statement made by State Department Under Secretary for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, who said in January, “I want to be clear with you today. If Russia invades Ukraine, one way or another, Nord Stream 2 will not move forward.”
On Wednesday morning, a Kremlin spokesman denied Russia played a role in the incident.
Two days before Russia invaded Ukraine, CNN Business reported:
The West showed Tuesday it was ready to target Russia’s huge energy industry — even at the risk of hurting itself — after Moscow ordered troops into parts of eastern Ukraine.
Germany said it was halting certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline following Moscow’s actions in eastern Ukraine on Monday.
“With regard to the latest developments, we need to reassess the situation also with regard to Nord Stream 2. It sounds very technocratic but it is the necessary administrative step in order to stop certification of the pipeline,” Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in Berlin.
In his “Truth” on Wednesday morning, Trump suggested that “a negotiated deal” is what is needed. “U.S. ‘Leadership’ should remain ‘cool, calm, and dry’ on the SABOTAGE of the Nord Stream Pipelines,” he wrote. “This is a big event that should not entail a big solution, at least not yet. The Russia/Ukraine catastrophe should NEVER have happened, and would definitely not have happened if I were President. Do not make matters worse with the pipeline blowup. Be strategic, be smart (brilliant!), get a negotiated deal done NOW. Both sides need and want it. The entire World is at stake. I will head up group???”
Within the same time frame but likely slightly earlier, he commented, “Everyone is talking about the big hurricane barreling into Florida, as they should be, but perhaps a far more important event in the longer term was the announcement that the Nord Stream I & II Pipelines out of Russia (which I brought to the World’s attention as President when I explained how crippling reliance on it could be for Germany and other parts of Europe. Everybody laughed at the time, but they are not laughing anymore!) has been SABOTAGED. This could lead to major escalation, or War!”
At a presser on Tuesday, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters, “These pipelines weren’t pumping gas into Europe at this time. NS 2 was never operational…and has not been operational for weeks because Putin has weaponized energy…This just drives home the importance of our efforts to work together to get alternative gas supplies to Europe and to support efforts to reduce gas consumption, accelerate true energy independence by moving to clean energy economy.”
