(Feb. 12, 2021) — The “Biden-Harris administration” declares White House occupant Joe Biden “the 47th Vice President of the United States,” but it does not say Biden is the “46th President of the United States.”
But who is the 46th “president”?
Donald J. Trump was the 45th president, although some consider him the 43rd due to the likely usurpation of the office by a man known as “Barack Hussein Obama II” as expressed on a “long-form” birth certificate found by a five-year investigation to be a forgery.
The “21st president,” Chester A. Arthur, is believed by some to have occupied the presidency illegitimately as a result of his father’s naturalization possibly having taken place after Chester was born. Another version of Arthur’s origins is that he was born in Canada and not Vermont to a British-citizen father.
Article II, Section 1, clause 5 of the Constitution requires the president to be a “natural born Citizen,” and the 12th Amendment, ratified in 1804, requires all vice-presidential candidates to meet presidential requirements.
Some report Chester attempted to obscure the details of his birth by misstating the year he was born and burning his “private papers.”
Ironically, Biden served as Obama’s putative vice president, and now Biden’s “vice president” is Kamala Harris, who was born to non-U.S.-citizen parents present in the United States on student visas.
Objections by members of Congress to allegations of fraud stemming from the November 3, 2020 presidential election were ultimately overruled by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and then-Vice President Mike Pence, who wrote in a letter dated January 6, 2021 that he believed he did not possess the authority to question the electoral vote counts certified by governors in states where widespread fraud was reported.
Update, 4:22 p.m. EST: This article was corrected to say that the White House website states Biden was the 47th Vice President of the United States, not the 47th President of the United States. The Post & Email thanks those commenters who brought the error to our attention.
