(Feb. 1, 2016) — On January 11, Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders declared at a campaign rally that “Nobody has ever asked me for my birth certificate,” contending that “Maybe it’s because of the color of my skin being different than Obama’s,” a reference to Donald Trump’s having demanded that Obama release his “long-form” birth certificate in 2011 to prove his eligibility to serve as president.

Sanders additionally commented that he was the “son of an immigrant father,” again comparing himself to Obama. However, Obama’s claimed father was not an immigrant, having come to the United States on a student visa which was not renewed in 1964.

The day after Sanders made his remarks, The Post & Email sent the following letter to his campaign which has received no response as of press time.

On Monday night, Sanders is in a tight contest with Hillary Clinton in the Iowa caucus voting.  Sanders has served as an Independent in the U.S. Senate but is running as a Democrat for president in 2016.

The Post & Email will provide an update should a response from the Sanders campaign be forthcoming.

Dear Sir or Madam:

In response to the following article published on Monday, January 11, 2016:

please consider this letter an official request for a certified copy of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’s “long-form” birth certificate from the state in which he was born, reportedly New York.

As a member of the alternative media, I believe that it is important to vet all candidates thoroughly, including their constitutional eligibility to serve in the office they seek.  Last year, I attempted to obtain similar documentation on Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz but was denied for “privacy” reasons by both the Canadian and U.S. governments.

Research conducted over the last eight years by various parties indicates that at the time the Constitution was drafted, the citizenship of the father determined that of the child. Therefore, it would be important to know whether or not Mr. Sanders’ birth to an “immigrant” father occurred before or after his father was naturalized as a U.S. citizen, if he was.

My request therefore includes a certified copy of Mr. Sanders’s father’s naturalization documentation, if it exists. These documents can be obtained by Mr. Sanders without impediment since he has a direct and tangible interest in both records.

Barack Obama’s father was never naturalized; he returned to Kenya in 1964 after studying in the U.S. on a student, rather than an “immigrant,” visa.

Thank you very much.
