DOES DEPENDENCY ON GOVERNMENT LEAD TO VIOLENCE?

(Jul. 15, 2015) — [Note to the Readers: A writer has a number of different vehicles in his quiver to utilize in order to get his point across, depending on whatever is in vogue (or allowed) at the moment. Sometimes the idea is to convey a sense of history, when an epic or a short poem may be utilized such as “The Iliad or “A Boy Named Sue.” Each format has its own advantages and disadvantages.

The Play: arguably the most difficult to write, but also the one that offers the most “punch” at the end.

The “Roving Reporter” series of “interviews”: usually written in a comedic format in order to move it along; fast pace; easy reading; point obvious.

The “Straight Editorial”: totally dependent on time and space constraints. The pinnacle of editorials is the novel followed by the short story. Some very good Hollywood films have derived from the short story, such as Jack London’s “Call of the Wild.” Basic editorial is made up of staccato-like points, usually in a textbook-like read, and if done succinctly, successful.]

Since the introduction of the internet and the advent of Youtube, some very disturbing photos and videos have surfaced depicting man’s inhumanity to his fellow creatures living on our home that we call earth. These are truly horrible videos that show Mexicans decapitating hog-tied women and of Muslims murdering other humans in equally horrible ways.

The human population has always had a certain percentage born prone to violence, and this is to be expected. When humans lived in small villages, such mean and selfish people could be detected early on and dealt with appropriately. The “serial killer” is a modern manifestation born out of cities, where people who wished to remain undetected could do so with relative ease. Perhaps the most infamous of the early serial killers was Jack the Ripper of the 1800’s of London, England. Surely there were such people wandering freely before then.

It would be safe to state that every big city and/or large metropolitan area has, has had, or will have a serial killer.

But the people of our time, today – hundreds, if not thousands – who are committing these truly heinous acts of violence on Youtube, weren’t born brain-damaged, although some certainly may have been. No, the brain-damaged people who cut people’s heads off and kill just for the sake of killing have brains which are wired not that much differently from the normal-put-together-right human being’s brain.

So what happened? Why did they short-circuit and not the rest of us? It very well may have to do with our modern 21st century, where the more dependent one is on “The Grid,” the less free one is, and the less free one is, the more one feels “out of control;” ergo, these people commit violence against others in order to give themselves a sense of living; a sense that it is they who are controlling their own destiny and it is they who derive direct satisfaction the more they make a totally harmless captive suffer. It’s exactly the same pathway of igniting synapses in a child’s brain while he or she is roasting ants via a magnifying glass. Some people need to grow up.

The root cause of such an increase of “over-the-edge” people from a Western Civilized country wanting to join ISIS is caused by overpopulation and less emphasis on independence by less direct contact with agriculture and animal husbandry. In other words, the more one is removed from the land and dependent on the government for sustenance, the more likely one is to “go over the top,” so goes the theory.

Apartments and over-crowded housing projects are the new norm. Urban “planning” where farms are swallowed up by the ever-expanding mega-cities, for example, Chicagoland, that never consider alternate proposals because land value trumps common sense.

Overpopulation and the failure to live as independently as possible have put us all in the position of not being properly prepared for disasters. We hear about our electrical grid being in jeopardy from an EMP and how vulnerable we are. True, but even closer to home are some of our neighbors willingly wanting to join ISIS so they can behead people, which should concern us a little bit more. It’s as if we’re growing our very own home-grown psychos and worried about the light bulb. Perhaps we should be paying attention to what we’re really doing; it’s as if we’ve created a maze that we can’t get out of. We’ve given up too much to become less independent.
