The Heritage Foundation Asks Americans to “End the Imperial Presidency”

“IMPEACHMENT?”

by Sharon Rondeau

(Nov. 20, 2014) — In response to Obama’s plans to change immigration policy, The Heritage Foundation is calling for signers to support an effort to “end the Imperial Presidency” to stop his “abuse of power.”

Over the last several years, Obama said that he could not change immigration law and policy and expressed concern for those who have come to the United States legally.  Over the last several months, however, he has stated that he would “go it alone” because the House of Representatives did not pass the Senate immigration bill passed last year.

Jim DeMint, a former U.S. Senator, is president of Heritage.

Obama insisted in his speech on Thursday night that his actions are “lawful.”  He promised to do more to secure the southern border, although over the summer, approximately 65,000 children and other illegals were allowed to cross the border and receive medical care, housing, food, mental health evaluations, and eventually attend public schools at taxpayer expense.

During his address, Obama said his executive actions will allow young illegal aliens brought to the country before 2010 and the parents of children born in the U.S. to remain in the country for three years.

Obama said that his plan does not amount to “amnesty.”

Earlier on Thursday, Fox News reported that Republicans were willing to “do whatever it takes” to stop Obama’s executive amnesty.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, who is chairing the special committee seeking answers on the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012, issued the following statement after Obama’s address:

The thread that holds the tapestry of our country together is respect for and adherence to the rule of law.  The law is our greatest unifier and our greatest equalizer.  Attempts to undermine the law via executive fiat, regardless of motivation, are dangerous.  President Obama may seek a fight with Republicans in Congress, but in reality he is fighting with founders of this republic and the carefully crafted separation of powers.

Whether previous administrations acted outside of constitutional boundaries is not license to do the same.  The President himself recognized his inability to do what he just did – 22 separate times. This action is not only detrimental to any chance in the new Congress for a sustainable, long-term solution on immigration, but also to the bedrock of our system of government— respect for the rule of law.

When the executive branch acts outside of constitutional boundaries the legislative branch must use all powers afforded it to respond and restore the constitutional equilibrium.  This is not a Republican or Democrat issue.  Rather, it should hasten the resolve of all Americans to make certain her elected officials honor the foundational document they swore to protect and defend.

Speaker of the House John Boehner released the following statement:

The American people want both parties to focus on solving problems together; they don’t support unilateral action from a president who is more interested in partisan politics than working with the people’s elected representatives. That is not how American democracy works. Not long ago, President Obama said the unilateral action he just announced was ‘not an option’ and claimed he’d already ‘done everything that I can on my own.’ He said it would lead to a ‘surge in more illegal immigration.’ He said he was ‘not a king’ and ‘not the emperor’ and that he was ‘bound by the Constitution.’  He said an action like this would exceed his authority and be ‘difficult to justify legally.’ He may have changed his position, but that doesn’t change the Constitution.

By ignoring the will of the American people, President Obama has cemented his legacy of lawlessness and squandered what little credibility he had left.  His ‘my way or the highway’ approach makes it harder to build the trust with the American people that is necessary to get things done on behalf of the country. Republicans are left with the serious responsibility of upholding our oath of office. We will not shrink from this duty, because our allegiance lies with the American people.  We will listen to them, work with our members, and protect the Constitution.”

NOTE: Before he changed his position, President Obama said at least 22 times that he could not make his own law without Congress, ignore current laws, or expand his 2012 executive action. He said doing so “would be both unwise and unfair” and “could lead to a surge in more illegal immigration.” According to several surveys, a majority of Americans oppose his unilateral action. The administration has also gone to great lengths to hide the truth about its immigration policies from the American people.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, who will be House Minority Leader in the new Congress, tweeted:

Pelosi signed two sets of nomination forms for Obama in 2008, one of which went to the state of Hawaii and stated that Obama and Biden were constitutionally qualified for the positions they sought.  The other set of forms went to the remaining 49 states, which do not require that such wording be included.

Many Americans suspect that Pelosi knew that Obama was not constitutionally eligible to serve as president.  Article II, Section 1, clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution requires that the president and commander-in-chief be a “natural born Citizen.”  Obama claims a foreign-citizen father and a birth in Hawaii, but his long-form birth certificate stating that he was born in Honolulu has been declared a forgery by a three-year law enforcement investigation.

The same investigators found that Obama’s Selective Service registration form is a “computer-generated forgery.”

Congress has refused to act on the crime of the forgery of Obama’s only proffered documentation, and the media has failed to report it.

Former Secret Service agent and congressional candidate Daniel Bongino wrote after Obama’s speech, in part:

After hearing the presidential address tonight, we must attempt to put partisan leanings aside and ask ourselves what type of country we want to hand over to our children. Although the President’s speech addressed immigration, the real questions we need addressed are the role of law, order, the limits of government power, and the role of our Constitution.

Immigrants who came to the U.S. legally or brought relatives legally stated that they may demand back the fees they paid.

  1. DeMint received $614,000 in compensation in 2013 from Heritage, including his $380,000 base salary and a $200,000 bonus, according to the tax document.

I, too, dropped my membership to Heritage Foundation. I also sent Jim DeMint articles from The P & E….no response to those either. Evidently, they do not read anything, because I have asked many times to be removed from their mailing list……..

  2. Stop the talk, the pontificating; bring the citizens attorney’s who can help us get rid of the corrupt liars who think it is good to lie repeatedly to control and to deceive. The President, his corrupt White House deceive lie again and again and smile doing so because the people are stupid. A President who willingly and knowingly lied to the American people without guilt. He is not a man of conscience and I see this is OK with Him, his staff, his family.

Tell us how to protest on line sending in $5.00 each to build a high-tech border fence; hiring Israelis’s to teach us how to build the fence because the White House is too corrupt and the democratic congress and senate are to willing to go along to throw away their country to the corrupt. Citizens must protect themselves and to send a message that the President is too corrupt to listen. He cannot deny website facts from citizens

  3. I dropped membership in Heritage Foundation when i didn’t get answers back to questions i asked Jim DeMint. If they won’t acknowledge a problem they certainly won’t do anything about it i reasoned. Politicians along with news and talk show hosts range from willful ignorance to utter complicity. Over the last few years i have eliminated Bill O’reilly, Glenn Beck, and Mark Levin from my viewing and listening as they all fall within that range.

Someone should ask Jim DeMint why he refused to do anything as a U.S. Senator about Obama’s false and fraudulent claim to be President. A clear violation of the Constitution’s “natural born citizen” requirement (not just a “clause” but a REQUIREMENT) … and now he heads an organization that claims to be a stalwart of informing the public about the Constitution. Something smells like a dead fish left too long on a flat rock in the sun.

It is obvious that the “leadership” of both Houses of our U.S. Congress have not read up on the Constitution for the United States of America lately that they swore an oath before a Thrice Holy God. Here is a quick refresher course Mr. Mitch McConnell and Mr. John Boehner: Article IV Section IV The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence. Where does it say in there we are a democracy Mr. Mitch McConnell, Mr. John Boehner???? We are a Republican Form of Government, not a democracy, not a socialist, not a communist, not a sharia law form of government. And yes, there has been an invasion of the worst kind!!!! When some of my own flesh and blood have come to realize this after being in full support of the usurper just some 5-6 years ago this tells me for a fact people are waking up. The Lord of glory is removing the scales from the eyes of the blind, they are not far from the kingdom of God!
