WHAT KIND OF “REFORM” IS NEEDED?

(Jan. 28, 2013) — We’ve all taken them, the Career Aptitude Test, and most of our results ended up as a life in sales, nursing, or a forest ranger. Let’s say you really believed that you had a hidden talent to sit in a chair all day and daydream without interruption and became a Ranger.
Congratulations on your graduation from an accredited Forest Ranger school; glad you made it. Now you’re all excited about your first assignment: no daydreaming for you! You’re all excited about spotting that first telltale column of smoke on the distant horizon and can’t wait to make that “I’m seeing smokes!” call.
Now you’re up in your very own tower, and you’re really proud because it’s one of the tallest in the whole area, and on your very first day you spot smoke! Wow, how fun can it get? So you call it in and wait for the flashing lights, sirens, helicopters and planes laying down retardant. And wait. And wait some more and call it in again. About a half hour goes by when you get a phone call from your boss.
Your boss tells you to mind your own business, don’t you know how to do your job and look the other way? “Listen, Kid,” he says, “That valley with the fire? Well, we set that fire to make room for a resort, cabins, fishing, a recreation goldmine and there’s a little bit in it for all of us if you just play along. Trust me. Learn to look the other way.”
I’m sorry, but I took my literary license and I fooled you: you weren’t a Forest Ranger; you were a Police Officer. That’s right, that perp who pistol-whipped that clerk is back on the streets an hour after he was booked, the crime you walked in on at the convenience store, while the old woman was bleeding and sobbing. Later on you’ll learn that he was given 90 days at the county lock-up.
Welcome to the billion-dollar cash cow they call the “Justice System.” You want justice? Pay up. You want a lot of justice? Pay more, because there’s a direct correlation between being railroaded and how much a person can pay. That “Get Out of Jail Free Card” isn’t make-believe, after all.
No wonder our police become warped, jaded and frustrated when repeat offenders are allowed to walk the streets after serving a nominal time behind bars. Child molesters, rapists, murderers, and not only in America. There was a serial killer in South America whole killed 300 girls who spent less then 20 years behind bars; now he’s out. Heck, he could be in your town as one of the illegal immigrants collecting food stamps, Social Security, and given public housing.
The point is that the laws and the sentencing aren’t being properly enforced. They talk about “immigration reform” when what they’re really talking about is “amnesty for illegal immigrants.” There’s NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR IMMIGRATION POLICY THAT NEEDS FIXING.
It’s no wonder that our Men in Blue have one of the highest divorce and alcoholic rates; heck, anybody would if they had such a frustrating job. Our politicians set the fire and have ordered the fire to burn, year after year. It’s not a resort Washington is buying, it’s votes. Shameful.
