Liberty Summit called for Dec. 15-16

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF PRO-CONSTITUTIONAL ORGS TO DISCUSS NATIONAL CRISIS

(Dec. 7, 2006) —  The nationally recognized Oath Keepers has teamed up with the 9-12 project to organize and host a National Liberty Summit, to be held in Washington, D.C.,  on the Anniversaries of the ratification of the Bill of Rights (Dec. 15th) and of the original Boston Tea Party (Dec. 16th).

Oath Keepers describes itself thus:

Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of currently serving military, veterans, peace officers, and firefighters who will fulfill the oath we swore to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God.

The Oath Keepers’ website explains the purpose of this Convention:

With this summit, we will be calling on the national leadership of all Constitutionalist/liberty organizations across the nation to set aside any differences and come together, on the anniversaries of the ratification of our Bill of Rights and of the Boston Tea Party, to join together, and work together to preserve our Republic.  And this will indeed be a working summit, designed so the national leadership of all the many diverse groups can meet eye to eye and form a working alliance at both the national and state level, right down to working together in each county, to preserve what we can all agree on, what we all have in common – our Constitution and Bill of Rights.    And once those groups come together, they need to stay together, and help each other to address the many urgent and pressing problems we face, restoring the Republic from the ground up, from the county up.  That’s what it’s going to take.

Then they give this exhortation:

Our liberty, our independence, was won by men and women who set aside their differences and united in a  common cause. As expressed by Benjamin Franklin’s famous 1754 print, they knew they must “Join or Die.”

We must do the same.  We must join together.  To win our liberty and independence, the founding generation fought a desperate revolution against the world super-power of their time.  Many of them paid the ultimate price in that struggle.   As John Quincey Adams said many years later:

Posterity: you will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it.

We must “make good use of it” by using our freedom of association, speech, and assembly to unite in that same cause of defending liberty.

In every generation since the founding all too many young men have laid down their lives to preserve this Republic.   They kept their oaths.  We owe it to all of them – we are duty bound – to also keep our oaths by supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States to the utmost of our ability.

We must act as they would act, and as they would expect us to act.   And that means coming together and acting with integrity, mutual respect, good will, honor, courage, a sense of duty, and with sincere devotion to the Constitution and Bill of Rights that so many gave all to preserve.

This convention will be for the leadership in pro-Constitutional groups: to plan a meeting in April for a National Assembly of all the members of all participating groups, April 16-18; which will occur between a Tea-Party Tax Protest on April 15th, and a Second Amendment protest on April 19th.  Read more here.  Organizations which wish to participate can contact Oath Keepers through their site.
