In the past Democrats have said that nobody is above the law; soon they may be tested on that claim.

(Oct. 21, 2026) — In the minds of the media and the Democrats, embattled Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has a lot going for her. Indeed, she is a nearly perfect American, and by that, I mean that they admire the fact that she hates America as constituted. She has other virtues as well. Let’s count her social justice points; she is a woman, she is black, she is a Muslim, she is an immigrant, and maybe even here illegally, and she may have committed immigration fraud to get her brother into the country.
Last week we found out that she is under investigation, initially started by the Biden administration, now being advanced by Homeland Security for possibly committing immigration fraud, both for herself and for her brother years ago. For now, her fellow Democrats are standing by her, pointing out that Trump is going after her, both for her politics and also that she is an immigrant and black, and a woman. That’s right: Democrats are claiming racism.
Barack Obama, the unofficial leader of the Democratic party, claimed yesterday that Trump is going after Omar because she has “dared to criticize the president.” The flattering claim, pushed by Obama and other Democrats, that Trump views Omar as a political enemy and therefore has to stop her with a baseless investigation, gives her far too much credit. She is a radical back-bench member of Congress who couldn’t get elected outside of Minneapolis. She is not on the level of an enemy to be taken seriously by Trump. She is no political threat to him. My guess is that his dislike, or I should say contempt, for her stems from Trump’s belief that she is an ingrate. She got to come to America and escape Somalia, and yet she shows no appreciation towards America. And as a member of Congress, she consistently votes to weaken our country.
In addition to the charge that she married her brother to get him a green card, Homeland Security is also looking into the possibility that she falsified her age on her citizenship application to qualify for citizenship, as a minor, through her father, who may himself not have been a citizen.
Right now, it is good politics for Democrats to rally behind Omar. It pleases their base and gives Democrats an alleged example to point to of Trump using his power to go after a prominent Democrat.
But what happens if the accusations against Omar are true? How could she explain away the DNA if it proves that her ex-husband is really her brother? What if she herself is not a citizen? In either case she can’t serve in Congress.
Democrats, including Omar, have long claimed that nobody is above the law. Are they going to stand by that claim if charges are brought against Omar? They may argue that the statute of limitations will have passed on the fraud charge regarding her marrying her brother. And they may argue that even if her father wasn’t a citizen Ilhan shouldn’t be punished for his oversight/deception.
Trump is right to push for this investigation, not because Republicans could win Omar’s district, but because justice and truth demand it. This investigation will also expose the weaknesses in our immigration system, specifically our inability to vet refugees, especially from failed states like Somalia. And it also shows that Democrats don’t care about enforcing our immigration laws in general.
