Rant: Huff Post on USS Abraham Lincoln; Beating a Dead Horse

(Aug. 21, 2026) — While we’re still on the subject of the Left’s favorite pastime, beating on the Military (as they have been doing since our very beginning), I thought I would share a couple of things with those who aren’t familiar with life in the Services.

First, there isn’t a single US Marine I have ever known who isn’t proud to have served in our Corps. Those same Marines complained while in. A tough, regimented life lived in close quarters will do that to you. Our humor ranges from dark to irreverent given the harsh realities of impending danger in unforgiving conditions, conditions in which we thrive, by the way.

So, in general hearing that young Servicemembers are whining about something is not unusual, even to parents or friends back home, both of whom can be go-tos just to let off steam. Also to be expected is parents’ reactions to what they are hearing, especially if they have never shared the experiences in Uniform, much less in the Barracks, Chow Hall, Field, Warzone, aboard Ship, ad nauseum.

What is unconscionable is the opportunistic media whores (proper use) who use one or two anecdotal quotes from parents with zero experience except for a call from lil’ Johnny that translates into an “Oh, God! They are killing my baby!!” just to create a hysteria among people who already hate the Administration, the Military, Police, ICE and anyone who supports them with the cheap goal of scoring points.

Again, the Lincoln is a massive Ship with a crew of 5,000 that is currently engaged in a War! For those of you who still think that any of this is unusual, you should read Breakout: The Chosin Reservoir Campaign or any number of books about Pearl Harbor, the Pacific Theater in WWII, the Philippine Insurrection, the Civil War, the Sea Battles of WWI and II, to mention a few. War is hell. Life in the Service can be rough. Equipment breaks down. Food is every so often scarce.

We live in a fallen world with imperfect people and uncertainty. I would think that the prissy little ingrates whose fat, flat backsides from having populated the endless seats in Academia (so-called) who have exited as good lil’ Comrades now actively engaged in burning it all down would garner more concern than what is being shown to a few rags and primped-up talking heads who are doing nothing except fueling angst, anger and anxiety in a population that is losing all grip on reality and any and all grit.

I close this rant with the lyrics to a parody song about life in the Corps. For those of us who are Marines, it brings a chuckle. I hope it does the same for the rest of you:

They say when you’re enlisted, promotions are mighty fine
Well, I am still a private, and I’ve been in over nine
I don’t want no more of the U.S. Marines
Gee, Ma, I wanna go home.

The uniform they give us, they say is sure to fit
We walk along the highway, we look like a sack of grit
I don’t want no more of the U.S. Marines
Gee, Ma, I wanna go home.

The shelter-half they give us, to keep us from the wet
A friend of mine lay down in one; they havеn’t found him yet
I don’t want no more of the U.S. Marines
Gee, Ma, I wanna go home.

The officers they send us, can stand up to the worst
You find them every weekend, shacked up with a nurse
I don’t want no more of the U.S. Marines
Gee, Ma, I wanna go home.

The shoes they give the gyrenes, they say are mighty fine
You need a number seven, they give you a number nine
I don’t want no more of the U.S. Marines
Gee, Ma, I wanna go home.

The bed rack that they give you, they say is mighty fine
Well, how in the hell should I know? I never slept in mine
I don’t want no more of the U.S. Marines
Gee, Ma, I wanna go home.

The crap house that they give us, is mighty cold and bare
The wind blows through the open seat and it tickles ya’ curly hair
I don’t want no more of the U.S. Marines
Gee, Ma, I wanna go home.

They say if you’re in the Marine Corps, then you’re the very best
Well, they can take the fighting, and we’ll go take a rest
I don’t want no more of the U.S. Marines
Gee, but I wanna go right back to Quantico
Gee, but I wanna go home.

Semper Fidelis;

John Bernard
