(Jun. 14, 2026) — At 5:29 p.m. EDT, in accordance with his message of Saturday, President Donald Trump declared the long-sought “deal” mandating that the Islamic Republic of Iran cannot and will not develop, procure or otherwise prepare nuclear weapons for use was consummated and the U.S.-imposed blockade on the Strait of Hormuz lifted.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” he posted on Truth Social. “Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

At 4:22 p.m. he perhaps inadvertently hinted that an agreement was forthcoming when on Truth Social he criticized Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) for opining that “the the Deal we just made is not as good as the Obama disaster known as the JCPOA.”

Reed was a guest on “Fox News Sunday” with Shannon Bream during which he compared Trump’s dealings with Iran as roughly equivalent to the JCPOA and claimed “billions” have been wasted during the negotiations and that on Sunday, Trump was attempting to “give himself a birthday present.”

Trump turned 80 earlier today.

The JCPOA was a 2015 agreement between the Obama regime and Iran in which $1.7 billion “made entirely in cash” derived from the Judgment Fund was paid to Iran as part of an agreement which Trump claims allowed Iran to continue developing nuclear weapons.

The Treasury Department states the Judgment Fund “pays court judgments and compromise settlements of lawsuits against the government.”

“Reed is either an outright fraud, or incompetent,” Trump added in his post. “…Our Deal is a WALL against Iran ever having a Nuclear weapon, the complete opposite of Obuma. Impeach Jack Reed!” Trump concluded his thoughts.

“There’s a signing ceremony Friday in Geneva, Switzerland,” Fox’s Trey Yingst reported at 1:13 a.m. Israeli time/6:13 p.m. EDT.

On Monday Trump is scheduled to depart the White House for the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France after landing at Geneva’s international airport.

In the weeks leading up to the U.S.-Iran agreement, Trump predicted the price of oil, which had risen sharply over prices in effect prior to the opening of the military conflict, would drop “like a rock” once the Strait was reopened to full international shipping traffic.

At 6:27 p.m., Trump confirmed Yingst’s reporting, writing on Truth Social, “This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region. Many presidents have tried to make Peace with Iran, and all have failed before me. The Leaders of the Region have, for the first time, found a President who can help them achieve real Peace. With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the Deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the Region, and the World! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

I will accept that I could be wrong, but the overselling by President Trump leaves me hugely skeptical. This “peace deal” is not a peace deal. It is a memorandum of understanding(MOU). It finalizes nothing. It is performative. If the Iranians show good faith, they will get rewarded. That makes us all very uncomfortable.

Still, this is not your run of the mill MOU. There will be repercussions for everyone. The biggest negative impact could be on the IRGC. Infighting will only get worse. If this triggers an outright internal war, well, good.
