(Jun. 14, 2026) — On today’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Michael Waltz spoke with host Maria Bartiromo concerning what President Trump said is an imminent “deal” to be signed with the rogue nation of Iran to end the 3.5-month military conflict brought about by the U.S. and Israel’s belief Iran would have soon launched a nuclear weapon into Israel.
The United States and Israel have been at war with Iran since February 28, when both countries dispatched missiles into portions of Iran successfully aimed at its theocratic and military leadership, military bases and capabilities.
On Saturday Trump posted on Truth Social that an agreement is expected to be signed “tomorrow.”
In a follow-up post early Sunday afternoon Trump deplored an Israeli attack on Beirut targeting the terrorist group Hezbollah.
Earlier Sunday Israel accused Hezbollah of violating a ceasefire brokered by Trump on June 1 between Israel and Lebanon.
“This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened,” Trump wrote, “particularly on a special day when we are so close to a Peace Deal with Iran. Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it was responding to was very small and meaningless, nobody was hurt, injured, or killed, and should not disrupt this important process…”
On June 4, Hezbollah said it would not abide by the agreement.
Once again, Trump said an agreement is “very close,” though on Friday Iranian leadership stated any agreement hinges on the United States returning “half” of its frozen assets.
Waltz cited two differences between the Trump administration’s agreement with Iran and the 2015 JCPOA negotiated by the Obama regime and of which Trump has been highly critical.
“Barack Hussein Obama’s Deal with Iran, the JCPOA, was an easy, beautiful, smooth road to a Nuclear Weapon, which Iran would have had six years ago, and would have used long before now,” Trump wrote on Saturday. “My Agreement with Iran is the exact opposite, A WALL TO NO NUCLEAR WEAPON! In fact, they no longer want a Nuclear Weapon, nor will they have one, either through purchase, development, or any other form of procurement…”
One of the differences, Waltz said, is the “anytime, anywhere verification” Trump is demanding for determining if Iran actually dismantles its nuclear program as opposed to the JCPOA, which Waltz said allowed Iran to place its nuclear sites “off-limits” under certain pretexts.
Second, Waltz said, “You’re not going to see these pallets of cash moving up-front. It is going to be ‘pay-for-performance.”
On March 12, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, causing oil prices to spike and economic panic to set in within some circles. In response, the U.S. assumed authority over the Strait by prohibiting Iranian exports, particularly oil, from departing and deliveries from arriving.
When Bartiromo asked about the timing of the agreement with Iran, Waltz deferred to Vice President Vance. The “intent,” he said, exists on the part of the U.S. to sign an agreement Sunday and, once completed, fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump has pledged that once the Strait is reopened, oil prices will “drop like a rock.”
A third difference with the JCPOA, Waltz added, is that “President Trump’s blockade has been tremendously effective.”
Waltz said a recent meeting he had with the leaders of Bahrain and the UAE demonstrated “they are standing shoulder to shoulder with us” against Iran. He said it was a “strategic mistake” for Iran to have attacked U.S. air bases in their countries and resulted in a “huge step forward” in those nations’ relationships with the U.S.
Sunday is Trump’s 80th birthday, Bartiromo recognized at the conclusion of her program.
