(Nov. 26, 2025) — At approximately 2:45 p.m. EST Wednesday, major media reported the shooting of two on-duty West Virginia National Guardsmen in the nation’s capital.
A suspect is reportedly in the hospital with serious injuries.
At 7:26 p.m., the Jason Chaffetz of Fox News reported the shooter’s identity as “an Afghan national” in the country illegally by means of a visa overstay.
The shooter is said to have had no accomplices.
Shortly after the incident was announced, West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrissey declared the soldiers deceased, a statement he retracted once conflicting reports were issued. As of this writing, the Guardsmen were reported as hospitalized in “critical” condition.
At approximately 4:00 p.m., the White House released a statement on X and Truth Social from President Trump consisting of a single paragraph:
Fox News indicated the shooter ambushed the two Guardsmen as they rounded a corner in the city “just blocks from the White House.”
The FBI is considering the shooting as “potential terrorism.”
