A Scary Halloween Play, 1 Act, 3 Scenes
Scene I:
As the house lights dim, the curtain rises to the theme music of “The Thing” (4:27) to a stage set as the front porch of a Victorian house decorated with cobwebs, jack-o-lanterns, skeletons and a likeness of Kamala Harris. Starting at the sidewalk, outdoor speakers play excerpts of ‘The Cackle’s’ voice. We see little kiddies being escorted by their parents, but when they reach the pathway to the house, they hesitate and move on to the next one. As the music ends, the curtain is lowered.
Scene II:
The curtain rises to the stage set as the living room of a Victorian house. The walls are wallpapered with numerous pictures of long-lost relatives and samplers*. The family is sitting quietly waiting for a knock on the door.
Father: “Did you remember to buy enough candy?”
Mother: “Yes, dear, I did. That’s the third time you’ve asked me in the last ten minutes.”
Father: “I’m sorry, it’s just that I thought we did a pretty good job of letting our neighbors know we’re in the Halloween spirit.”
Mother: “Now, dear, don’t fret over it. We talked it to death as it is. The Democrats will like the display for honoring ‘Miss Cackle’ and the Republicans will admire it for being truthful. It’s still early; be patient. Here, I’ll put on some music.”
“Vivaldi Summer” (2:26)
Father: “That was nice. I think I’ll check on the decorations; I thought I heard a noise.”
Mother: “Relax; there was no noise. Besides, you checked it not 15 minutes ago.”
Father: “That may be, but I want to be sure.”
Mother: “Relax; take it easy.”
Father: “Did you hear that? I thought I heard a noise out front. It sounded like someone whining. Don’t you hear it?”
Mother: “I believe I do. Let’s go see.”
As they get up the curtain lowers.
Scene III:
The curtain rises to the song of “Baba O’Riley” (5:09) as a crowd of adults is gathered on the sidewalk in front of the house, some with pro-Trump posters, others with anti-Trump posters, each trying to out-talk the other. The father and mother approach, and as the music ends, the father speaks.
Father: “Excuse me, please, but what seems to be the problem?”
Mother: “Some of them hate Trump for taking the credit for stopping eight wars and are upset for his devaluing of munition stocks.”
Father: “Oh, is that all. What about the others?”
Mother: “They were just looking for an excuse to get out of the house.”
Father: “Fine; let’s go inside.”
As “I Will Follow Him” (4:09) is played, the curtain lowers and the house lights brighten.
