Trump Speaks on Nationwide Injunction Ruling

(Jun. 27, 2025) — At 11:49 a.m. Friday, President Trump began a press conference responsive to the opinion released approximately an hour earlier contending that district court judges issuing “nationwide injunctions” are overstepping their constitutional authority.

The decision will now allow the administration, Trump said, to “promptly file to proceed” in pending cases such as that of “birthright citizenship,” a concept put into practice decades ago bestowing U.S. citizenship on virtually anyone born within U.S. borders.

On January 20, 2025, one of the first executive orders Trump signed was to declare birthright citizenship a violation of the intent of the 14th Amendment.

In short order, three district court judges issued nationwide injunctions suspending Trump’s EO, which the administration appealed.

“This was a colossal abuse of power,” Trump said as he celebrated the Court’s ruling.

After brief remarks, he called upon Attorney General Pam Bondi.

“Americans are finally getting what they voted for,” Bondi said. “No longer” would judges succeed in blocking the administration’s agenda,” she said. “The judges have tried to seize the executive branch’s power…We will continue to fight for President Trump’s policies.”

She said “another great ruling” from the Court was its opinion, also issued Friday, supporting the plaintiffs in Mahmoud v. Taylor, whose plaintiffs opposed Montgomery County, MD schools’ refusal to allow their children to opt out of instruction on controversial topics such as transgenderism and gender dysphoria.

Bondi thanked Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Acting Deputy Attorney General and Third Circuit judicial nominee Emil Bove, Principal Deputy Solicitor General Sarah Harris and others in the Justice Department for their work on the cases.

Blanche then spoke, commending the Court for “recent” decisions he said were constitutionally sound, including the Mahmoud.

The Court did not rule specifically on the birthright citizenship issue, although when Bondi returned to the podium at 11:58, she said a separate ruling could be issued “any moment.” However, she strongly suggested it would come “in October” upon the commencement of the Court’s new term.

As for the underlying birthright citizenship question, “This was huge because it’s indirectly impacted today,” Bondi said in response to a reporter’s question. “Five districts,” she said, issued the nationwide injunctions which temporarily blocked the president’s agenda.

Upon retaking the podium, Trump said “birthright citizenship” has been abused “by the cartels” to assure that “very bad people” enter the country “in some cases.”

At 12:22, Trump responded to a question about the 2020 election, which he has always claimed he won. “Look at what this lunatic did,” he said, speaking of Joe Biden. “He allowed people to come into this country, mental institutions…gang members, drug dealers, people – oh – jails being emptied out into our country…”

“Friends” and others have advised him to abandon his claims on 2020, he said, but “we have to” discover what happened.

He then strayed to his administration’s accomplishments since January 20, particularly in foreign policy, then repeated to the journalist, who he said he didn’t know, that he “appreciated” her question.
