(Apr. 2, 2025) — Dane County, WI Circuit Court Judge Susan M. Crawford, 60, won the April 1, 2025 election for a seat on the state supreme court by a ten-point margin, major media reported late Tuesday night.
Her Republican opponent, former Wisconsin attorney general and current Waukesha County Judge Brad D. Schimel, conceded shortly after 9:00 p.m. local time Tuesday.
Crawford’s legal career has spanned approximately 30 years and includes public service in Iowa and Wisconsin as well as practicing law privately.
In February she was described as “liberal” by PBSWisconsin.
As a litigator, Crawford advocated for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, the League of Women Voters, the Madison teachers’ union, and then-state public instruction superintendent Tony Evers, now the state’s governor.
Also on Tuesday, Wisconsin voters overwhelmingly approved a proposal to amend the state constitution to require voter identification for all elections going forward. Crawford had argued against the state’s existing voter ID law passed in 2011 but not implemented until 2016 as a result of legal challenges.
Expenditures in the race topped $100 million, making it the costliest Wisconsin Supreme Court contest in state history.

Here in deep blue sanctuary Montgomery County MD the League of Women Voters advocates against Voter ID, for lowering the voting age to 16, and allowing ILLEGAL ALIENS to vote in local elections.
Next thing you know the League of undesirable female voters will do is coerce municipalities to send absentee ballots to the Chinese Communist Party and to Russia. Why should they feel compelled to stop at allowing illegal aliens to vote?
I do not want to sound too much like a Polyanna, but……Planned Parenthood is getting defunded, DEI in public education is on the run, and the public rejects her stand on voter ID. So, this judge may tilt the court to the left, but many events are working against that.
Also, I am holding out hope for other special elections over the next year or so which will add to the Republican total in Congress.
She is a problem, she must be fought, but she is not the catastrophe she was being made out to be, IMHO.
According to the gentleman on this YouTube channel, key Wisconsin counties ran out of voting ballots and this affected the Democrat win for the liberal judge.
