Trump: Haley, Pompeo Will Not be Part of Administration

(Nov. 9, 2024) — In what could have been a response to a column published Saturday by longtime Republican strategist and Trump advocate Roger Stone, President-Elect and 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump announced he will not be calling upon two members of his previous administration to serve again.

“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation,” Trump wrote on Saturday at 6:16 p.m. EST. “I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

In his post, Stone expressed strong antipathy toward Pompeo and Haley after Trump’s hard-fought third presidential campaign to initially defeat Democrat Joe Biden, then Kamala Harris once she became the nominee following Biden’s abrupt withdrawal from the race on July 21.

“When Trump was ousted via deep state coup and blamed for the Fed-surrection of Jan. 6, the rats were fleeing the ship, and it was easier to see the enemy’s true colors,” Stone wrote of the final days of Trump’s first term. “Now that Trump is back on top, it becomes far more difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.”

“After being relatively quiet throughout the presidential season, President Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared on the campaign trail to advocate for his former boss in the final days heading into Trump’s victory,” Stone continued, though reminding his audience that Pompeo had appeared to advocate for Trump’s prosecution by Biden’s Justice Department for allegedly illegally retaining classified documents after he left the White House on January 20, 2021.

When Fox News anchor Brian Kilmeade interviewed Pompeo on June 13, 2023 about the documents case, Pompeo responded, in part:

If the allegations are true, and there’s lots of indications that they are, President Trump had classified documents where he shouldn’t have had them, and then when given the opportunity to return them, he chose not to do that for whatever reason…I suppose we can all make mistakes and get them to the wrong place, but when somebody identifies that, you gotta turn them in…if the allegations are true — some of these were pretty serious, important documents, so that’s wrong…”

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith to investigate the allegations against Trump and two others in the documents matter as well as for purportedly seeking to interfere with Congress’s counting of the 2020 electoral votes on January 6, 2021 which would certify Biden and Harris as the new president and vice president, respectively.

Last week Smith’s office initiated the process of “winding down” both cases due to Trump’s re-election and longstanding Justice Department policy not to prosecute a sitting president.

Trump will be inaugurated on January 20, 2025 at noon.

Stone is not alone is opposing any future role for Haley or Pompeo.

In his column he further excoriated Pompeo, who briefly served as Trump’s CIA director but was moved to become Secretary of State, for “bragging about lying to the American public” regarding the CIA.

“What’s the cadet motto at West Point?” Stone quoted from Pompeo’s April 2019 interview at Texas A&M University. “You will not lie, cheat, or steal, or tolerate those who do. I was the CIA director. We lied, we cheated, we stole. It’s — it was like — we had entire training courses. It reminds you of the glory of the American experiment.”

Stone also noted the CIA had reportedly wanted to extradite Australian former hacker-turned-journalist and Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to the United States to face a charge of conspiracy after releasing military classified documents.

A Yahoo! News probe first reported in September 2021 that Pompeo’s CIA “had drawn up options for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration for dealing with Assange while he was holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy in London, including assassinating or kidnapping him.”

As for Haley, who served as Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations for the first two years of his administration, Stone wrote:

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley emerged as one of the individuals trying to upend President Trump and deny him his rightful chance to avenge the stolen 2020 presidential election. Nevertheless, she is still being floated around as a possible cabinet appointee, and Trump himself has stated that it is a possibility.

Haley is a political chameleon who has changed with the times in ways that are incredibly self-serving. Haley initially rode an endorsement from former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin into office, winning the South Carolina governorship. After she won the post, Haley immediately had her sights set on Washington D.C. and abandoned her constituents. As a result, she was crushed by Trump in her home state by 20 points in this year’s Republican primary race.

Haley is a war hawk whose foreign policy views are far closer to those of John McCain than Donald Trump. In 2017, she publicly endorsed regime change in Syria and falsely implied that this was the policy of the Trump administration, stating “in no way do we see peace…with Assad as the head of the Syrian government.” Haley has an even more extreme position on Ukraine than what has come from the Biden administration, endorsing Ukraine’s admission into NATO, a move that would likely initiate World War 3.

Although in 2021 pledging not to seek the presidency if Trump were to announce a third run, Haley reneged and announced her presidential aspirations on February 15, 2023.

Competing directly with Trump and many others, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Haley suspended her campaign on March 6, 2024 after faring poorly in the “Super Tuesday” contests the day before.

Over the course of Saturday Trump reposted several examples of media coverage and commentary from his victory in last Tuesday’s election. He began the day, however, with what appears to be encouragement to Americans who are inclined to donate to the Democrat Party, which reportedly amassed significant debt despite raising $1 billion from donors.

“I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over,” Trump ruminated. “Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others. Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do. We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was ‘Earned Media,’ and that doesn’t cost very much. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
