(Nov. 3, 2024) — The Post & Email has learned that Robert Christopher Laity, who filed numerous presidential “eligibility” challenges in an effort to uphold the “natural born Citizen” requirement of the U.S. Constitution for the office of the president, died on Friday, November 1, 2024. He was 73.
A citizen legal scholar, Mr. Laity’s most recent challenge to an office-holder’s constitutional eligibility was filed against “Purported Vice President Kamala Devi Harris,” reaching the U.S. Supreme Court in April 2021. The Court declined to grant Mr. Laity’s Petition for Writ of Certiorari which he wrote was of an “extremely grave nature” affecting the “very survival of the American Republic.”
In July Mr. Laity, who for years had sent almost daily emails to this writer on various issues of interest, shared with us he was experiencing health challenges. Subsequent emails we sent to his account went undelivered, and we were unable to reach him by phone.
Approximately a month ago we learned Mr. Laity was in the Veterans Administration (VA) hospital in Buffalo, NY and called his room, but he was not available to speak with us.
Laity hailed from a large family, his obituary states, and was predeceased by several siblings.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Science-Psychology from the State University of New York (SUNY), the obituary continues. “He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War Era, where he received a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, and took classes at the Hospital Corps Class A School. He worked at the VA Hospital in Buffalo, and served as a paralegal and union steward for over 20 years. He was a long time member of Saint Francis of Assisi RC Church. he enjoyed swimming and diving at the YMCA, law, politics, medicine, and going out for a nice meal.”
“Though Robert has departed this earthly realm, his legacy endures — a legacy of love that will continue to illuminate the lives of family and friends in the darkest of hours. May his spirit soar on wings of eternal peace, forever cherished in the tender embrace of memory,” his Echovita obituary reads.
Calling hours were held Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST at the Fretthold & Hamp Cremation & Funeral Services, Tonawanda, and a funeral mass will be held Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 144 Broad Street, Tonawanda, at 11:30 a.m.
Laity is author of Imposters in the Oval Office published in 2018. For many years and as recently as February, he petitioned the New York State Board of Elections (NYSBOE) to correct its “born a citizen” characterization of the Article II requirement to “natural born Citizen.”
In April Mr. Laity shared his observations of the total eclipse affecting his area as well as stunning local news coverage of the rare event.

But for Bob Laity’s courage, tenacity and dedication to the Constitution and, in particular, its “natural born Citizen” eligibility restriction, your faithful servant here might likely have never undertaken his own examination of the issue. It takes all three of those characteristics to launch into an oftentimes thankless and frustrating effort to uncover the truth, particularly when those on the Left are intent on keeping the truth hidden and take joy in lampooning the effort.
Undaunted, Bob Laity persevered. He, along with Mario Apuzzo, is now in that “better place” where, eventually, with any luck, their earthly past efforts will bear fruit. Yours truly intends to persist in the effort to make that fruit appear and ripen.
In pace requiescat, Bob Laity, and thank you for your service.

Now it’s even more imperative that Trump wins.

The Pulse of the Nation
I am very saddened to learn about the passing of Mr Laity, the Founder and President of the Society for the Preservation of our American Republic in 1987 (the bicentennial year of our US Constitution). Mr Laity was kind enough to accept me as an honored and distinguished member of the society in March 2019. The certificate which he sent to me is in a frame next to a letter from the White House signed by President Donald J Trump in 2018 and sits atop my dresser.
I say this not for readers to know this about me, but for you to UNDERSTAND WHAT A SELFLESS, WONDERFUL, AND PATRIOTIC PERSON MR LAITY WAS AND WHAT HE MEANT TO ME AS A FAIRLY ORDINARY AMERICAN CITIZEN.
God Bless. Thomas (Tom) Arnold.
Rest in Peace, fine Warrior. Your strong fight was well appreciated. You win in the end. Hope the enemies enjoy their justice in Hell. I’m human and judgemental (sorry Lord)- that is where they all belong IMO.
So sad to hear since Robert Laity was so dedicated to do the Homework for the Homeland for fellow U.S. citizens who have perhaps forgotten over the years just what John Jay wisely intended with his “natural born Citizen” (nbC) cause clause.
Although I never met Robert and we only conversed once over the phone and several times via emails, his calmness and thoroughness led me to believe that he was a kind gentleman, yet he was inspirationally and relentlessly nbC-dogged as well. He sent me a free signed copy of his “Imposters in the Oval Office”. What a guy!
Robert, I’m stickin’ with your past writings and previous intentions to help keep the nbC-torch of truth burning as long as I can, or until nbC-justice is finally served. You did decisively prove to me, and to probably thousands of other nbC-originalists that our U.S. Government leadership and every one of its responsible nbC-vetting departments will never honor their oaths of office nor their prescribed duties to publicly vet Obama and other nbC-usurpers after 2008…you have proven to me and many others that this long-awaited public nbC-vetting can only be done now by Donald Trump and/or We the People on Main Street USA.
If there was ever an annual “John Jay Award” for patriotic defenders of Jay’s pragmatic nbC-intentions, Robert, you and Mario Apuzzo would surely be its recipients!
You will remain reverently alive in our living memories, Mr. Robert Laity..
It’s very sad to hear that Mr. Laity has passed away. His knowledge, and refusal to give-up did not go unappreciated by his fellow patriots. Thank you Mr Laity………….
Very sad news to hear. He was a terrific constitutional scholar and patriot. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Laity, a fellow “nbC” warrior shipmate, I salute you and all the work you did to try and preserve the original intent, understanding, meaning, and the WHY of the “natural born Citizen” term in our U.S. Constitution.

I hope that as an enduring legacy for Mr. Laity, as well as the late Mario Apuzzo, the U.S. Supreme Court upholds the principle that a natural-born citizen is one born on U.S. soil to parents who are U.S. citizens. Rest in peace Mr. Laity.
