Biden: “I’m Staying in the Race”

(Jul. 5, 2024) — At a rally in Madison, WI Friday, White House incumbent Joe Biden, who many Democrats no longer believe should be the 2024 Democrat presidential candidate, told his audience he is “staying in the race” after making light of his “age” and June 27 debate performance against presumptive Republican nominee Donald J. Trump.

The debate aftermath pressed Biden to withdraw from the race, meet with more than two dozen Democrat governors Wednesday to assure them of his mental soundness, and reportedly tell at least one of them he is overworked, requires more rest and less engagement after 8:00 p.m.

Some notable donors said they will withhold funds from the Biden campaign until Biden withdraws to make way for a more viable candidate, as they see it.

As he spoke, Biden animatedly promised to “ban assault weapons,” “restore Roe v. Wade as the law of the land” and expand paid leave and healthcare, among other initiatives.

“Do you think I’m too old to beat Donald Trump?” he asked, followed by cries of “No!”

He berated Trump for actions he took during his presidency, including the allegation that Trump called dead veterans “suckers and losers” while in Normandy during a D-Day ceremony.

Trump has denied the claim, as have 19 military officials.

“Trump is a convicted felon, found guilty 34 felonies, trying to hide hush-money payments to a porn star,” Biden further proclaimed. “Donald Trump isn’t just a convicted criminal; he’s a one-man crime wave…” he said.

He repeated his version of the events of January 6, 2021, for which he held Trump accountable.

“This election is what kind of America do we want to be?” he said.

He claimed Trump wishes to remove millions of people from eligibility for the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as “Obamacare,” and “cut taxes for the very wealthy.”

“I want January 6 insurrectionists to serve their full terms; Trump wants to pardon them,” he said. “…You can’t love your country only when you win.”

“Ultimately, the American presidency is about character…” he said. “It’s about honesty…integrity…can they honor their oath to the Constitution and uphold their oath of office?”

He inaccurately said the U.S. Supreme Court “ruled that there are virtually no limits on the power of the presidency.” “This next term, whoever’s the president is going to appoint at least two appointees,” he said, referring to the court.

He said the court’s recent ruling could permit “Trump” to “take bribes” and exact physical retribution against his political opponents.

“I will beat Donald Trump; I will beat him in 2020,” Biden shouted, though correcting himself to say, “2024.”

“Folks, this is not hyperbole. It’s about our freedom; it’s about our democracy…just remember who in God’s name we are. We’re the United States of America…so let’s win this election and exile Donald Trump…” he shouted, concluding his address after approximately 15 minutes.
