(Aug. 3, 2023) — The National Pulse has reported, with exclusive video, an interview Tucker Carlson conducted while still at the Fox News Channel with former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund regarding the events of January 6, 2021.
The National Pulse, whose editor-in-chief is Raheem Kassam, is affiliated with Steve Bannon’s “War Room” and podcaster “Fleccas.”
Late Wednesday Kassam tweeted that the exclusive presentation is dedicated to the late Andrew Breitbart, after whom Breitbart News was named and whose legacy is continued there.
According to Kassam, “Fox News tried to hide this interview.”
Directly after Carlson was unexpectedly fired by Fox on April 24, Alex Jones reported he was not surprised by Carlson’s firing based on reporting Carlson was about to release, contrary to his Fox bosses’ wishes, on Carlson’s January 6 investigation for which he had aired never-bef0re-seen video obtained from Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy’s office.
On April 25, The Post & Email reported:
For a time Tuesday morning, “Alex Jones” was the top trend on Twitter, with some users pointing out that on March 8, 2023, Jones predicted Carlson would not appear on Fox much longer if he were not able to air certain footage of the January 6, 2021 incursion at the U.S. Capitol.
In early March, Carlson did, in fact, present previously unseen footage he and his producers obtained from Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy’s office of protesters, some of whom were jailed for years without charges or trial, conducting themselves peacefully in the presence of U.S. Capitol Police officers who made no move to arrest them.
According to a report from The Los Angeles Times Monday afternoon, one of the reasons Carlson was fired, a decision reportedly made personally by News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch, was Carlson’s investigation and reporting of the January 6 incident which the political left terms an “insurrection.”
According to Mediaite on Monday, citing its source as Puck (article behind paywall after free trial), in order to defend himself against a lawsuit filed by seven U.S. Capitol Police officers over the events of January 6, 45th President Donald J. Trump’s legal team is “seeking access to an interview that never aired on the now-defunct Tucker Carlson Tonight…between Carlson and former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund. Trump wants both the recording and any related notes to use in his defense of a Jan. 6-related lawsuit.”
The interview, however, was scheduled to air on Carlson’s streaming “Fox Nation” show, “Tucker Carlson Today,” of which NP posted approximately three minutes. For this writer, the audio did not play clearly, and it sounded as if Carlson might have had a cold.
“If I was allowed to do my job as a chief, we wouldn’t be here. This didn’t have to happen…Everything appears to be a cover-up,” Sund told Tucker during the interview.
NP’s posted excerpts of the interview include:
“Like I said, I’m not a conspiracy theorist,” Sund explains, “…but when you look at the information and intelligence they had, the military had, it’s all watered down. I’m not getting intelligence, I’m denied any support from National Guard in advance. I’m denied National Guard while we’re under attack, for 71 minutes…”
“It sounds like they were hiding the intelligence,” Carlson quizzed, to which Sund stunningly responds: “Could there possibly be actually… they kind of wanted something to happen? It’s not a far stretch to begin to think that. It’s sad when you start putting everything together and thinking about the way this played out… what was their end goal?”
On February 6, 2021, ABC News reported, citing The New York Times as having first procured the referenced letter:
Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund sent an eight-page letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Congressional leaders on Monday, providing a detailed account of the events leading up to the Jan. 6 riots as well as a detailed timeline of events as he saw them unfold on that day.
Pelosi immediately called for Sund to step down on Jan. 7. Later that day, Sund submitted a letter of resignation.

Quoting from but not posting the letter, ABC further reported:
On Jan. 4, the Capitol Police Intelligence and Inter-Agency Coordination Division “assessed “the level of probability of acts of civil disobedience/arrests occurring based on current intelligence information,” as “Remote” to “Improbable” for all of the groups expected to demonstrate on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021,” according to Sund.
Sund said he directed the department to be placed on “all hands on deck” status, which meant every sworn officer would be working. He also said he activated seven Civil Disturbance Unit platoons, approximately 250 officers, with four of those platoons equipped in helmets, protective clothing and shields.
On Jan. 5, the day before the mob stormed the Capitol, Sund hosted a virtual meeting with “a dozen of the top law enforcement and military officials from D.C., including the FBI, U.S. Secret Service and the National Guard.” The meeting focused on the Jan. 6 event and the Jan. 20 inauguration, which had already been established as a National Special Security Event.
“During the meeting, no entity, including the FBI, provided any intelligence indicating that there would be a coordinated violent attack on the United States Capitol by thousands of well-equipped armed insurrectionists,” Sund wrote.
On January 3 of this year, Sund published a book, “Courage Under Fire: Under Siege and Outnumbered 58 to 1 on January 6” whose introduction references “insurrectionists” who perpetrated a “savage attack that followed was a well-planned and carefully coordinated armed assault on the United States Capitol, involving thousands. The shock and horror of this attack exploded on TV screens worldwide as US Capitol Police officers under Chief Sund’s command found themselves facing a violent siege, hit with pipes, fire extinguishers, boards, and flag poles. Dedicated men and women were knocked unconscious and sprayed with mace and bear spray as live pipe bombs were discovered at the national headquarters of both major political parties.”
However, the last three paragraphs read:
There have been many false reports and outright lies concerning the conduct of the US Capitol Police on January 6, and there has been no accountability for the individuals who bear most of the responsibility for the failures that left the USCP unprepared that day — from the shocking failures in intelligence to the outright stonewalling Chief Sund received from the Pentagon when he repeatedly called for the National Guard’s help, even as the attack on the Capitol was raging.
Two years later, so many questions still remain unanswered: What did the intelligence community know about the plans of the insurrectionists before the attack? Why was the request for the National Guard continually denied and delayed? Why was the nation’s capital so vulnerable?
Forced to take the fall and resign, this is Chief Sund’s chance to answer those questions and to tell the full truth about what really happened on January 6.
Update, 10:40 a.m. EDT: Kassam is interviewing with Steve Bannon’s “War Room” now about the Sund/Carlson interview.
