“A thimble you say? Is that what that is?”
Peter inquires after his first kiss.

His boy heart is pounding; his mind’s in a whirl,
Could all this be caused by one little girl?

Wendy searches his eyes; how shiny they are,
As big and as bright as his second star.

“Yes, Peter, a thimble was mine, now it’s yours.”
Peter could see how one thimble lures.

But he shook his head and stated quite clear,
“I won’t grow up! I’m staying right here!

“For becoming a man is no life to me!
A desk tie me down? I want to be free!”

So one little boy defies nature’s law,
While a woman searches for a boy she once saw.

She marries a man, ambitious of mind,
A little romantic and really quite kind.

Then one day she fancies, in play with his son,
This man that she married is not the same one.

His golden hair rumpled now brings to her mind,
A free little boy from another time.

She suddenly gasps when she catches his eye,
And sees it twinkle like a star in the sky.

Then stepping toward her he smiles down,
At a little thimble on her silken gown.

Then snatching it up along with her sewing,
He throws it aside and then starts to crowing,

“Enough, My Lady, with this silly mess!
Come to my arms and give me a kiss!”

And so the boy Pan is really a spirit,
Who lives in all men who are willing to hear it.

And maybe somewhere there’s a Neverland,
For every Wendy and Peter Pan.
