(Oct. 8, 2022) — Once upon a time, three princesses went out for a stroll upon the narrow road.
The eldest, Drusilla, soon became distracted by a group of peasants who were arguing about this and that. She wandered off the road and was soon in the midst of them, trying to make herself heard.
The youngest, Marissa, caught a glimpse of her reflection in some cooking ware they passed in the village and stepped away from the path to admire herself.
But Tabitha kept her eyes ahead of her as she continued on the road. She hurried her steps as she noticed an elderly woman sitting by the path. The old lady looked up with gratitude upon receiving the water the princess had offered, then promised the girl a wish granted in exchange for her kindness.
Tabitha looked back at her two sisters, far behind, and considered. How often their selfish, foolish, wayward ways had wearied her. But she gazed upon them with pity and compassion. “I wish,” she said, “that my sisters and I shall enjoy the carefree days of youth, again, when we were innocent, selfless, pure, and free to love, hope and dream!”
The old woman smiled with a nod. “And so it shall be granted!”
