(Nov. 15, 2021) — As of 9:24 a.m. EST, “War Room” host and former Trump White House chief strategist Steve Bannon plans to deliver remarks live in front of the FBI in Washington, DC following his Friday indictment by a grand jury on two counts for “contempt of Congress.”
The charges, the Justice Department said, arise from Bannon’s allegedly ignoring a congressional subpoena to testify as to the events of January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol and to produce requested documents.
Subpoenas to various individuals close to former President Donald J. Trump were issued in September by the “Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol,” which contains Democrats and Republicans hand-picked by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA12).
Whereas January 6, 2021, was one of the darkest days of our democracy, during which insurrectionists attempted to impede Congress’s Constitutional mandate to validate the presidential election and launched an assault on the United States Capitol Complex that resulted in multiple deaths, physical harm to over 140 members of law enforcement, and terror and trauma among staff, institutional employees, press, and Members;
News coverage unfolding in the months that followed revealed that only one death resulted directly from the incursion: that of Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed Trump supporter who entered the Capitol through a window with others and was shot dead by a U.S. Capitol Police Officer who the Justice Department said it will not prosecute.
“No one is above the law,” members of the committee have tweeted.
Bannon’s remarks are being live-streamed on his GETTR channel.
At 9:38, Bannon began speaking. There are breaks in the live stream. “…We’re taking down the Biden regime…we have polling out, economic data out, everything. I want you guys to stay focused,” Bannon said, indicating his show will be guest-hosted on Monday.
His address lasted less than one minute, when he went in to the building behind him among a throng of TV cameras and people.
The livestream was placed on a loop for re-viewing.
According to ABC News, Bannon is expected to be arraigned on the indictments on Monday.
