OPINION:  “FOUR-STEP PROCESS” UNDER WAY TO “SCUTTLE” ELECTORAL TRADITION

July 10, 2020

Current presidential debate schedule (Commission on Presidential Debates)

To the Editor:

For several months now, I’ve opined that the Democrat hierarchy will not allow Joe Biden on stage to debate Pres. Trump, because it would effectively be political-suicide for their candidate.   Many others share this opinion.   First, Joe Biden is a two-time loser as a past presidential candidate (a peculiar choice to begin with); second, he is prone to repeated self-inflicted gaffes, and third, he seems to be in the early stages of dementia, and that tends to magnify his clouded and incoherent thinking/speaking!  Sadly, he muddles through incomprehensible gibberish every single time that he speaks publicly!

Now, recent actions by the DNC (Tom Perez) and certain other Democrat luminaries clearly suggest/confirm my suspicions that there will be no presidential debates.  I believe the Democrats will employ a four (4) step process in order to scuttle the debates as follows (the first two are already completed):

  1. In early April, the DNC rescheduled the Democrat convention to be held in July in Milwaukee to August 17-20.   The reason provided was the pandemic, of course.  However, it will now be a “virtual” convention, to be held in a smaller venue with state delegations not attending and decentralized events held throughout the country.  Joe Biden’s likely truncated acceptance speech will probably be from a remote facility and read from a teleprompter.
  2. On July 8, Thomas L. Friedman penned an article appearing on the Op-Ed page of The New York Times, demanding certain conditions be met by Pres. Trump for the debates to move forward as scheduled.   The conditions are ridiculously absurd and won’t even be considered, which is exactly the outcome desired by Friedman and his handlers.
  3. In the near future, we can reasonably expect to hear from a political heavyweight on the matter, e.g., Obama, Clinton, Perez, etc.  I’m guessing that it will be those political morsels that will further dampen any prospects for the debates.
  4. This step will weave all the lies, distortions and excuses into a diatribe that will be used by the Dems to walk away with heads held high, blaming  Pres. Trump for the failure.

With all sincerity, I hope I’m wrong.   I suspect that most Americans want to see and hear the debates, as I do.  I truly believe it would be to Pres. Trump’s distinct advantage and that he’d crush Biden in a series of debates.   Sadly, Joe Biden is a mere shell of a man and is being propped up by the Democrat Party primarily because their bench is so pathetically weak.  Even if Joe Biden were somehow miraculously elected, he might be our next president but clearly unable to govern.  Very, very dangerous, and sad.

Respectfully,

Mike Latham
