SOCIAL MEDIA SAID TO BE A TARGET

by Sharon Rondeau

(Aug. 1, 2018) — The Intelligence Committee of the U.S. Senate, which is not taking its customary August recess, began a hearing at 9:30 a.m. EDT Wednesday on “foreign influence operations,” as titled by Fox News producer Chad Pergram on Twitter.

The “operations” are associated with online election interference by foreign countries, particularly as they might pertain to the upcoming midterm elections.

The U.S. “intelligence community” has determined that a number of Russians attempted to sow discord online in advance of the 2016 election.

The Intel Committee did not assign a title to the hearing as did the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday on immigration matters.

Five witnesses will be testifying, with each providing an opening statement.  As of 9:59 a.m. EDT, “Russians” are said by at least two of the witnesses to be engaging in the propagation of “bots and trolls” to influence opinion on a variety of topics.

  1. Talk about the teapot calling the kettle black! Our political establishment blankets us with incessant indoctrination across the full spectrum of media while faulting the Russians for a minuscule presence in comparison if at all.
