“A COORDINATED ATTACK”
by Sharon Rondeau
A number of sources reported that on Wednesday, Loomer had “harassed the defendant’s family” as they left the courthouse and that her press credentials had been revoked, although Loomer claimed she was asked to relinquish them as she was removed from her seat in the courtroom.
In her broadcast, Loomer asserted that the marshals “wouldn’t tell” her why she was asked to leave. She also opined that Byron was “more concerned” about not offending the Muslims in attendance, as Salman and her family are Muslim.
Mateen had pledged allegiance to ISIS as he committed the heinous act.
The New York Times reported that the jury foreman in Salman’s trial, in a statement made after the verdict was announced, said that he personally was convinced that Salman “knew” of her husband’s plans to wage a terrorist attack but that the charges focused on “aiding and abetting” and “obstruction of justice” and based on the evidence, called for acquittal.
The Huffington Post reported that Salman alleged to a relative that her husband, who was killed by law enforcement during the attack, was a domestic abuser, a claim also reportedly made by Mateen’s first wife.
In her Periscope broadcast announcing her removal from the courtroom and barring from the courthouse altogether, Loomer admitted to having questioned Salman’s family on Wednesday but that her questions were within the scope of attempting to discover “the truth.” She said she was not disruptive in any way in the courtroom on Thursday and that her removal from the proceedings was a violation of her First Amendment rights.
She speculated that the treatment she received could have been the result of political motivation on the part of the judge and that she might seek legal representation as a result. She described her removal as “a coordinated attack.”
Loomer has been associated with James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas and Rebel Media. She was arrested last summer after she interrupted the “Shakespeare in the Park” play of “Julius Caesar” appearing to depict the murder of President Trump.
