Is Politico’s “Fake-News” Story Fake News?

U.S. SENATE CANDIDATE NEVER CLAIMED NEWSPAPER “ENDORSEMENT”

by Sharon Rondeau

(Feb. 14, 2018) — On Wednesday morning, the hashtag “Kelli Ward” began trending on Twitter in connection with an article posted by Politico claiming that the Arizona U.S. Senate candidate “touts endorsement from fake-news site.”

The article stated that last October 28, Ward “posted a link on her campaign website and blasted out a Facebook post, quoting extensively from a column in the Arizona Monitor.”

Ward’s official campaign Facebook page is here; readers will have to scroll down over several pages to find the post (pictured at right).

It appears that anyone can offer comments on the page, and there is no response from Ward  characterizing it as an “endorsement,” as Politico suggested.

The Post & Email was not unable to determine whether or not Ward linked to the post from her campaign website.

Apparently having seen the Politico article, the “Arizona Monitor” issued a response which states, in part:

First off, we are not connected with the Kelli Ward campaign, the Republican Party, or anyone else and are truly an independent organization. Secondly, we do not profess to be a professional news organization on par with FOX News or, obviously, CNN. Our purpose is to simply bring attention to issues and stories the local news in Arizona is not covering or covering with an unfair bias. We are a partisan site and do not profess to be unbiased. After all, since the mainstream media is so left wing, somebody as to defend the far-right and conservatives.

The Post & Email submitted a comment under Politico’s article stating, “The Arizona Monitor responds that it never professed to be a news site: https://arizonamonitor.com/…/fake-news-politico…/

Unlike when we first logged on to the “Arizona Monitor website from the url on Ward’s Facebook page, the site appears to be experiencing technical problems:

Attempting to access other areas of the site from the rebuttal article demonstrates that the navigational tabs yield the same error message:

As of press time at 12:33 p.m. EST, “Kelli Ward” is no longer trending on Twitter.

Update, 12:46 p.m. EST:  As The Post & Email exited Ward’s Facebook page, the following “news” articles appeared on Facebook under our search terms, “Kelli Ward Senate”:
