by Omowale A. Shabazz, TDOC #244104

(Oct. 30, 2016) — [Editor’s Note:  The following correspondence and documentation were received earlier this month from the above-named inmate, with the second letter and enclosure arriving last week clarifying his name change from Fred Edmond Dean to Omowale Ashanti Shabazz.

Shabazz is housed at the Northwest Correctional Complex (NWCX), a state-run prison in Tiptonville whose warden is Mike Parris.

Corizon” is the private company which provides health care services to Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) inmates.

On May 12, 2016, Shabazz filed a grievance with prison officials which stated, “Today, and every day since December 23, 2015, I have been exposed to a criminal conspiracy devised by the TDOC and/or Corizon via their subordinates to defraud.”

His complaint is similar to reports received from Walter Francis Fitzpatrick, III in early 2015 regarding the Pro-Social Life Skills (PSLS) course which Fitzpatrick alleged was being filled with inmates who had completed the course previously or did not meet the criteria, with the purpose on the part of prison staff to collect thousands of dollars from the federal government.]
