TTCC Conditions Horrific, Say Inmate Relatives

(Sep. 23, 2016) — On Friday at 9:56 AM EDT, the following message was sent to Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) Communications Director Neysa Taylor:

Good morning, Ms. Taylor, I know last month you claimed that the dozens of reports I have received about TTCC are “inaccurate,” but the following messages are all from this month and corroborate previous accounts of a poorly-managed, under-staffed, gang-infested prison.

I additionally received an anecdotal report on Wednesday that an inmate might have died from a drug overdose.

How bad does it have to become before someone does something?

Hartsville prison continues to treat humans worse than animals .

I had not heard from my son at TTCC in Hartsville for a couple of weeks. With all that’s going on there, I was worried about him and called for a week with no one answering at the prison. We drove over 240 miles to make sure he was alright. He said they have locked them in their cells for 5 consecutive days with no showering and two bologna sandwiches with water every day , nothing else. When they are not locked down he is scared to go to the “cafeteria” because that’s where a lot of things happen. He said they joke about solidarity confinement would be much better. Please help and guide the families of inmates in ways that will make a difference. Who do we write or where do we need to go and please give us a way to help them.

My husband was recently transferred to Trousdale Turner and, told me in a phone call that he was being locked down most of the time because of staffing problems. He said the prison is running over with gang members and that everyone is at risk for harm. He also said that they don’t feed them well and they get peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for breakfast. I called the prison and spoke to the person in charge who, assured me that none of things were true. now, here I am reading all of these things on this website! Wow!!! they are liars too!!!! if you are not doing anything wrong……why do you lie?????

My fiancé was jumped at Trousdale. I am his emergency contact and was not contacted for three days after the incident. It’s been almost two months and they still will not release his incident report to me or any of his family members. I have been in touch with lawyers and hopefully will make some headway there, but at the moment, I am just praying that he is able to make some sort of recovery, because he is getting less than adequate care at the medical prison he was moved to after he was released from the hospital.

After my visit on Sept 3 they went back on lockdown and I did not hear from my husband until this past Thursday Sept 8 only to be told that he was in segregation/”The Hole” and had been there since he left visit w/me on the 3rd. He was put in segregation because he was in the area where the fight had happened when the 6 gang members jumped that guy in the am on Sept 3rd. He was told they had to review the camera to see who all was involved and I said “well could they not look at your hands and see that you had no blood or signs of fighting” and he said they did look at his hands but apparently that wasn’t enough proof.

So as of last Thursday ( the first and last time I have heard from my husband since Sept 3rd) my husband has been sitting in a cell with no shower, no toothbrush and in the same clothes since Sept 3rd and he wasn’t even given a blanket until Monday the 5th. The paperwork they gave him said begin date of investigation was Sept 3rd and the end date of pending investigation was Sept 9 at 5:30pm. I have no idea if this has been resolved or if he has been moved back to his cell. I have called repeatedly all weekend and can NOT get anybody to tell me anything. Will not tell me if he is still in segregation or if he is back in his cell or if they are locked down, NOTHING!! I got 4 voicemails and the 2 humans I actually, as I’m crying and begging them not to transfer me, transferred me to voicemails. As I have said before my husband is NOT affiliated and he did NOT have anything to do with this fight but he has been paying the price for it.

PLUS SO MUCH MORE GOING ON THAT ONLY OUR LOVES ONES LOCKED UP IN THESE EVIL HORRIBLE PRISONS KNOW ABOUT  THE SADDEST PART MOST OF THEM ARE TOO SCARED TO REPORT ANYTHING SCARED EVEN MORE FOR THERE LIVES &/OR FOR THERE FAMILIES!! ONTOP OF THEY TELL US ALL LIES & SLANDER OUR LOVE ONES NAMES & WHO THERE REALLY ARE ESPECIALLY WITH THERE LIES!! I have not heard from my husband since Sunday night. His unit has been on Lockdown for 5 days now.  No phone for 5 days and I m assuming no showers. I just called and ask if they were still on lockdown and was told yes,  I said it’s been 5 days and he laughed and said ” I think it should be longer”. That comment took me back a second and I replied ” that’s a little harsh to hear for the family out here and I hung up.it was never left ke this at Bledsoe County Correctional. These ppl keep them locked down in their cells like they are animals.

It’s extremely hard to call Trousdale and be talk to like you are trash and even harder to drive 2 1/2 hours to go visit and be looked down on like you are trash. They have no reason to be hateful and rude to the family. The hardest part of all of this is that there is “NO ONE” to go to for help.

I have no choice but to drive 2 1/2 hours and sit and wait for 2-3 hours to see my husband for 45 min.  I have no choice but to let them be rude to me and make hateful comments to me like the one that was made to me today.
I have never felt so defeated,  disrespected and helpless in my life.
