TRI Brings Tax Revolution to Netroots Nation and FreedomFest

(Jul. 7, 2016) — Washington, DC — In a demonstration of its commitment to nonpartisanship, the Tax Revolution Institute (TRI) — a nonprofit group which aims to promote justice and integrity in the US tax system — is pleased to announce its participation in two upcoming, politically diverse conferences: Netroots Nation and FreedomFest.

Netroots Nation, whose organizers describe it as “a giant family reunion for the left,” will take place in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 14 – 17, while FreedomFest — a gathering of individuals who embrace “the free market and individual choice” — will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 13 – 16.

TRI will participate in FreedomFest as a sponsor and is scheduled to host a provocative tax panel titled “Why Every Attempt at Tax Reform Has Failed.” The panel will be moderated by author and TRI Communications Advisor Robin Koerner and will feature a panel of notable tax experts, including Nevada Assistant Controller Geoffrey Lawrence, Northwood University Senior Vice President Dr. Timothy Nash, and TRI Executive Director Dan Johnson.

Johnson will also engage in a panel on the main stage titled “Taxing Nation: Is the Supply-Side Revolution Over?” alongside Stephen Moore, Steve Forbes, Jenny Beth Martin, Grover Norquist, and Andrew Puzder.

TRI is also eager to take part in Netroots Nation 2016. “Many important tax and IRS problems need to be discussed, and we look forward to highlighting recent issues affecting low-income taxpayers, including the Affordable Care Act,” TRI Legal Director Robert Rodrigo said.

Rodrigo also noted that TRI is part of the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic network that offers pro bono assistance. “We will have a wealth of information available about major issues affecting all taxpayers, such as civil-asset forfeiture with no crime, how the tax code and the IRS unfairly target the middle class and small businesses, and how the tax code is trampling free speech,” he said.

Additionally, the Tax Revolution Institute will make a groundbreaking announcement regarding the launch of the first-ever independent audit of the Internal Revenue Service. The details of this initiative, including its scope, purpose, and the ways in which the American public can help audit the IRS, will be made available during these two events.
