WITHOUT A SAFEGUARD FOR LIBERTY

Al Capone was expelled from school at the age of 14.  Wikipedia reports that ” In his early twenties, he moved to Chicago to take advantage of a new opportunity to make money smuggling illegal alcoholic beverages into the city during Prohibition.”

(Aug. 29, 2013) — People don’t become corrupt overnight. Small steps, then on to bigger stretching of the envelope until, one day, you wouldn’t even recognize the metamorphosis from baby photo to mug shot.

Examples abound just about everywhere.  Some of our fellow citizens literally get away with murder, and it isn’t until some unlikely set of circumstances align that the wrongdoer is ever fingered. Son of Sam was caught through a parking ticket, of all things. And even though Ted Bundy was convicted of one murder, it has been suggested that he was responsible for over 300 deaths, a number that my mind rebels against, that the word aghast becomes defined.

Governments are an unique species. It reminds me of a colony of ants, where in magnifying and studying one ant you lose the whole picture of what an “ant” is all about. Take your worker ant and study it. You see that he goes this way, then that way, and returns. Then study the guard ant, and you see he stands around, and faces in this direction, then he faces in other directions. Take the queen ant, laying eggs of different types. Maybe the colony requires more guard ants, then guard ant eggs it is. Meanwhile, the whole hoard is crawling up your leg and bites you! Pay attention! You can’t study ants in isolation!

So, too, governments: study of one government employee in the DMV, then another study, maybe a Lincoln Memorial guard who spends the day making doubly sure that there’s no hugging or kissing between lovers, onto yet other parts that make up the whole. You can’t get a good picture of the whole by studying each individual part, yet you must study each individual part that makes up the whole; almost a Catch 22.

What to look for, in the case of colonies or governments (same difference), is long-term patterns of behavior. Take, for instance, the government of the United States. In order to get the Homeland Security of today we had to have had a Waco, Texas. Then, in order to have had the Waco fiasco, we had to have wiretaps maybe “forgotten” to be removed or put in in the first place without a court order, like back in the days of Al Capone and the Untouchables. You see, a pattern is detectable between those who give illegal orders and those who follow illegal orders, the Ying and Yang of how our government operates. On the other edge of the precipitous cliff leads is the chasm of illegal behavior. On one side you have, “Boss, you can’t do that without a court order” and on the other, “Who cares about the 4th Amendment? As long as we use the excuse of it’ll make us safer.”

Little by little the erosion of individual Liberty is being washed away by an entity that answers to no one, because it’s too big and there are no mechanisms in place to safeguard the people’s rights.  THERE USED TO BE, that is, until the Fourth Estate went over to the other side.

You see, it’s simple: without a free and open press, without a mainstream media reporting the truth, facts, the straight skinny, we don’t have an open government “by the people.” All we’re left with is a bunch of goons who issue illegal orders and follow illegal orders because there’s no mechanism in place to act as a safeguard. Without public awareness of the government’s wrongdoing, all we’re left with is an unrestrained government.
