WHAT DOES INDEPENDENCE DAY MEAN TODAY?
by Gary Steven
(Jul. 2, 2010) — It was the usual hot July 4th summer day last year. Traditionally, it is a day of commemoration and celebration of American Independence. The day was a Saturday. Some businesses closed on Friday to make a three-day weekend out of the celebratory event. As is customary, the stores were advertising their sales and specials on hot dogs, hamburgers and a variety of BBQ meats, potato salad, veggie platters and picnic delights with red, white and blue patriotic banners and flag displays. City events are planned surrounding this significant date in American history with parades, fireworks, family picnics, and concerts in open amphitheaters performing songs by American composers, songs of freedom, sacrifice, loyalty, military marches, and hymns, yes, hymns proclaiming God as the benevolent Creator who ordained such a country.
I take temporary leave of the curse of political correctness in the next few paragraphs. Deliberately and with lucid mind, I share the experience of July 4, 2009 which, unplanned and unexpected, overwhelmed my soul.
Our family enjoys the festivities of backyard picnics with all the foods, swimming, and appreciation of the American way of life, often playing the songs and hymns about our country on distinct American holidays. I was enjoying the music and floating around in the pool (wasn’t time to get the grill going yet), and the sun was bright and just perfect. Relaxed and reflecting on thoughts of what a blessing it was to be an American, I was unexpectedly ambushed by sadness. A sullen, deep grief washed over me. Please understand, if assessed of a personality type, my indictment would be- “far too objective and very minimal subjective side of analysis.” I started to weep. My soul hurt. What was this about? I dipped under water to cover the tears and hide my obvious sorrow. The invasion of discerning awareness about and “for” America struck a never-before-played chord on my heartstrings.
The immediate tracking of such thoughts swarming my mind did not lead to convoluted leftovers from being a “boomer” raised in Detroit during the turbulent ‘60s. Rather, it was clear, concise, and convincing. A simple subliminal observation had compiled over the previous months of listening to live speeches and watching words fall wastefully to the landfill of lies. The spewing of grief-laden ash erupting from the inner man to a new conscious truth demonstrated that the person posing as president did NOT love America. With no inclination, no warning, not even an emotional alarm bell, the digestion of falsity from the lips of putative leadership had its toxin, the oil of lies, spilled out in a backyard pool from the soul of a man who loves America. The spill from the gut of concerned citizens is and continues to be larger than the BP Gulf ordeal.
The public declarations of our putative president, stating, “We are not a Christian nation,” the apology tour on foreign soil, the ongoing corruption to pass legislation destructive to the free enterprise system all have caused many a soul to erupt. Why? He hates America. For clarity, we are a nation made up of many faiths and cultures. In reality, the American definition of a Christian has lost its salt. To be a follower of Christ one must carry out his instructions. However, it is interesting to scan the historical record of our founders, their writings and our abiding governing document, the Constitution, to affirm that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob of the Old Testament and the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ in the New Testament were, in fact, the influence which created the America we enjoy. That is not to say that all were believers or doers of the Word. But its prominent place in establishing the principles of life was esteemed and revered. Not only do the archives confirm the permeating presence of God honoring lives, but foreign historians wrote about it as well. French political thinker and historian Alexis de Tocqueville, upon visiting America in 1831, wrote:
I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields, and her boundless forests – and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public
school system, and her institutions of higher learning – and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution – and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and
heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great!
The zeal and religious orientation prevalent in public office was a quality of life that was much admired. Did they make mistakes? Oh, yes. In many cases, public repentance was an attitude and attribute considered honorable.
The intent to “fundamentally change America” consistently attacks values and principles once the bedrock of social and political morés. A government cannot survive with falsehoods as a foundation. Similarly, a commerce system cannot function long-term without just weights and balances. It is astounding that Barry Soetero was elected POTUS based on what we DIDN’T know about him. More astounding, Congressional leadership won’t address the mystery of his past. On his first day in office, he signed an executive order sealing all of his records from birth to his Senate record. Even more astounding, the Department of Justice won’t give it a glance. Escalating the astonishment further, the Press Secretary and the lamestream media deliver Slapinskys (new word from my thesaurus, definition: “Saul Alinsky tactic bashes your question as stupid”) to your face. Presently, you have a decorated Lieutenant Colonel, Terry Lakin, being court-martialed for asking a legal, Constitutional, oath-fulfilling request for the liar-in-chief to prove his eligibility to hold the highest office of the land. Barry S., aka Obama, hates America. In a short time, the facts will be stacked high enough to reveal the fraud on the American people.
We the people LOVE America, and we want our country back!
