(Jul. 15, 2026) — The social-media manager of the Maricopa County Republican Committee X account suspended on July 9 for posting an image informed The Post & Email Tuesday evening that an assertion X’s AI, Grok, made about the suspension is inaccurate.
The image which purportedly violated X’s Terms of Service contains a set of eyes superimposed on the organization’s logo posted in response to a tweet from Arizona State Sen. Wendy Rogers.
On Saturday Townhall journalist Rachel Alexander uploaded the image to Grok for analysis, receiving a lengthy response suggesting the account suspension was politically-motivated and “fits a pattern where partisan complaints + automation = temporary lockouts right before elections.”
The election referred to is Arizona’s primaries on Tuesday, July 21.
Grok concluded its observations to Alexander with, “The account is active otherwise and posts standard GOP/Maricopa County content. Should resolve with appeal.”
On Tuesday evening MCRC’s social-media manager disputed the claim. “In reality, the MCRC is locked out of its account to the extent that it may only sign in and see that its original appeal is still being considered. By whom, or by what, we’ve got zero idea…,” the manager wrote to us, supplying a screenshot of X confirming that during the appeal process, MCRC “won’t be able to access your X account.”
“The MCRC is blocked from posting anything, since last Thursday, and, looking forward, now 1 week to the day away from Primary Election Day,” the manager additonally wrote. “Is it ironic that Grok, run by Elon Musk, is erroneously observing how X, also run by Elon Musk, is supposed to be working?”
As this article went to press this writer queried Grok about the suspension of the account and received the following response:
We then asked Microsoft’s ChatGPT the same question and were told “there is no independent confirmation from X that the Maricopa County Republican Committee’s account was permanently suspended or the specific reason for any enforcement action.“
