“Outsider Unfriendliness” in Appalachia…

(Jun. 28, 2026) — Isolated. Alone. Unaccepted. On my own.
Always excluded.  Never invited.
Neighbors are absent or abusive…
Unsupportive and personally divisive.

No random acts of kindness or generosity.
Buckets of abandonment and social neglect.
No gratitude or reciprocity… and no respect.

I give, give, give…generously. Strive to bless.
They take, take, take what I offer, without regret.

My needs go unnoticed.  My heart cries for relief.
Feeling victimized, insignificant and oppressed…
Treated like an unwelcome stranger, villain or thief.

The local elite’s criticism is unjustified.
Their clannishness is callous and cruel.
It’s coldhearted to dump on a disabled woman,
To treat her…a fatherless widow like a fool.

Being an ‘Outsider in Appalachia’, a pain that persists.
You’re never truly accepted and most often rejected…
Living in a lonely bubble and depressing abyss.
How can fellow human beings treat me like this?!

Keeping you at a safe distance, not letting you in.
Pretending to be nice… but not really your friend.
No welcome mats.  No written invitations.
Left alone on holidays and special occasions.

Cut off from community.  No real opportunities.
My character defamed and demoralized by lies.
My compulsion to help others keeps me giving,
Life is about unconditionally loving and living.
Despite their malicious tongues I so despise.

I’ll always be an ‘Outsider in Appalachia’…
but I’m a child loved by the Most-High God.
The Lord carries me through life’s battles…
Showers me with His grace, mercy and love.

Thank you, Jesus, for your everlasting love.

Of note:  Much gratitude to the people in Carroll County, Virginia who ‘have’ treated me with kindness and respect. God bless.
