Vance: “We Know” Omar “Committed Immigration Fraud”

(Mar. 28, 2026) — In an interview Friday morning at the White House with podcaster Benny Johnson, Vice President JD Vance said the Trump administration “thinks” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN5) “definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America.”

He was not specific as to whether the fraud was on Omar’s own behalf or another’s.

In an X teaser posted just after the interview, Johnson told followers, “This is going to break your brains…this is wild…You do not want to miss this. Get ready.”

As he suggested at the opening of his conversation with the vice president, on Friday’s edition of “The Will Cain Show,” host Will Cain suggested the remedy for the fraud is “denaturalization.”

Vance told Johnson he spoke to White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Stephen Miller, who sat beside Vance at the task force meeting Friday, about what might be “the legal remedies” regarding Omar “now that we know she’s committed immigration fraud.”

“How do you build a case necessary to get some justice for the American people?” he summarized his conversation with Miller.

Johnson’s interview was posted following the initial meeting of the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud at which Vance, who is chairing the initiative, said that in accordance with Trump’s goals, the group’s members intend to “take the fraud issue seriously.”

“We’re communicating across different departments,” he said, and intend to “make sure that we stop allowing fraudsters to steal the American people’s money.”

To Johnson, Vance alleged Omar “has been at the center of a lot of the worst fraudsters in the Somalian community.”

“So do we know that Ilhan Omar was aware that the Quality Learing Center was defrauding the American people? I’m not certain of it, but we at least need to investigate it, because if people can commit wrongdoing without even the fear that they’re going to be found out, that’s a fundamental problem…”

What Does the Administration Know?

President Trump has said in recent remarks that Omar “married her brother” and termed her a “fake congresswoman.” More recently, he called her a “scammer,” “scam artist” and “the ringleader” of the Minneapolis-based social-service fraud brought to the fore by City Journal writers Christopher Rufo and Ryan Thorpe and independent citizen video-journalist Nick Shirley.

In the wake of what Trump has reported is $9 billion in stolen taxpayer funds in Minneapolis, Trump recently announced the formation of a new task force aimed at rooting out large-scale financial fraud occurring across the country.

The majority of the Minneapolis fraudsters, dozens of whom have been tried and convicted, are Somali immigrants who posed as operators of daycare centers, healthcare organizations and meal-servers to school-aged children who might have been in need of regular meals normally obtained at school but unavailable during the coronavirus shutdown.

An iconic example of the alleged fraud was a daycare center displaying a sign above its door reading “Quality Learing Center.” The erroneous spelling was quickly corrected after Shirley and others featured it in their reporting as the scandal unfolded last fall; as of early January, the center was closed.

Growing Evidence

The Post & Email has reported over several years that a number of well-researched articles, some of them written by Minneapolis-based attorneys, suggest Omar participated in a “marriage” to her blood brother, Ahmed Elmi, who had been residing in the U.K., to obtain a visa for him and the ability to attend college in the United States on the presumption he had married a U.S. citizen and was eligible for taxpayer-funded student aid.

Did Kern Open the Floodgates?

In 2022, DFL Party Ilhan Omar primary challenger AJ Kern requested that as a foreign-born congressional candidate, Omar release documentation of her U.S. citizenship. Omar declined, and the lawsuit Kern filed was unsuccessful in obtaining it, if in fact it exists.

Kern’s curiosity had been piqued when her research showed it would have been unlikely for Omar’s father, Nur Omar Mohamed, to have naturalized in 2000 after arriving in the United States in 1995. Omar claimed she was 17 in 2000 and obtained derivative citizenship from her father’s newly-acquired naturalization.

Perhaps even more eye-opening, however, was that Omar had originally stated her birthdate as October 4, 1981, which would have made her 18-19 years old in 2000, thereby exceeding the age at which derivative citizenship would have been possible.

Article I, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution requires members of the U.S. House of Representatives to be “seven Years a Citizen of the United States.” 

Within days of Kern’s posting of a video she created to illustrate that point, Omar requested that her archived page at the Minnesota House of Representatives website be altered to display her birthdate as October 4, 1982, following suit with her congressional website and informational/biographical sources such as Wikipedia.

After her lawsuit was dismissed, Kern went on to file a FOIA request (p. 4) for Mohamed’s naturalization records with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Department of Homeland Security.

One year later she received responses stating no such records could be located.

In a February 21, 2026 interview with “Fox & Friends,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN2) said, “Her FATHER’S NATURALIZATION status has not been confirmed…if her father is not naturalized, then her status as a citizen would be in question.”
