(Dec. 13, 2025) — Shortly before 2:00 p.m. EST, President Trump posted a message of condolence for the loss of two U.S. Army soldiers and an interpreter in Syria who were killed by a suspected member of the terror group Islamic State.
The attack follows a visit by the nation’s new president, Ahmad al-Sharaa, to the White House, suggesting a new cooperation with the United States, by just over one month.
In addition to the deceased, three other soldiers were injured, Reuters reported and who Trump said are “doing well.”
“We mourn the loss of three Great American Patriots in Syria, two soldiers, and one Civilian Interpreter,” Trump posted on Truth Social at 1:55 p.m. “Likewise, we pray for the three injured soldiers who, it has just been confirmed, are doing well. This was an ISIS attack against the U.S., and Syria, in a very dangerous part of Syria, that is not fully controlled by them. The President of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is extremely angry and disturbed by this attack. There will be very serious retaliation. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
According to his Wikipedia biography, al-Sharaa was a member of the Iraqi “insurgency” after Saddam Hussein was removed from power in 2003. Opposing the Multi-National Force–I (Iraq), which was led by the U.S., the insurgents “fought an asymmetric war of attrition against the MNF–I and the Iraqi government, while also fighting among themselves,” Wikipedia’s entry on the subject reads.
Reuters reported that “the attacker was a member of the Syrian security forces,” sourced to “three local officials.”
Further, the report states, the security forces suspected the person of “holding extremist ideas” and was about to be the target of a “decision” on Sunday.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on X the attack, describing it as “an ambush by a lone ISIS gunman in Syria.”
“The gunman was engaged and killed,” the account added.

Just found the below URL a few minutes ago after reading this article.
It is a Congressional Record item about the legacy of the one, the only, #44 POtuS, including data on the rise and fall of ISIS.
I also posted a subtle comment on TRUTH Social to make sure others read this Congressional Record item.

When the above URL content is downloaded to be saved as a PDF (Portable Document Format) there will be 23 pages. Because the source is the Congressional Record, maybe this content could be published on TP&E in a series of four or five parts, copyright-free.
Yes, anything the government produces can be published without copyright, with the exception of some items in the National Archives as has been noted by this writer.
