(Oct. 15, 2025) — Though suspected, The Post & Email has just confirmed that Captain James M. Hoover, CACM, USAF (Ret), Vietnam War combat veteran and citizen contributor to our online community, passed away in late February. He was 79.

Born in Los Angeles and a later longtime resident of Connecticut, “Jim” also lived in Long Beach, CA and most recently in Lynchburg, VA, where his memorial service was held at the Compassion Church of the Nazarene.

This writer met Capt. Hoover at a Tea Party event he hosted in Vernon-Rockville, CT in 2010. He was a former Connecticut General Assembly candidate competing against Joe Courtney, who is now the congressman representing Connecticut’s second district.

Hoover enjoyed sharing videos of the U.S. Air Force’s latest aircraft and technology, and he was particularly adept at identifying new writers for The Post & Email, referring at least two whose work we continue to publish today.

He would often send information pertinent to The Post & Email‘s subject matter at any given time. In a June 2022 email, he introduced us to former U.S. Congressman Rob Simmons, who later was elected first selectman of the town of Stonington, CT.

Our emails with Hoover date back to April 2011.

On November 14, 2022, Hoover contributed an editorial in which he described “surviving death 5 times” the previous month. His writings encompassed foreign policy, politics and the effects of Alzheimer’s disease, which impacted him personally.

He was survived by his wife and two sons, both of whom spoke at his memorial service, the video from which was posted on March 3.
