(May 24, 2025) — “Humans are such helpless, silly creatures. Still, I suppose we must be patient with them. After all, they were the last to be created, which, naturally, makes us the superior beings.” The animals who had gathered ’round nodded in agreement with the wise owl’s words. He continued, “Now, as this world is relatively new, and those who have been given charge over it have already made a mess of things, it’s up to us to make sure the delicate balance is kept and all things find their order.” Thus every animal was given a task and a purpose to which each vowed to dedicate themselves and accomplish.

Years turned into decades, that grew into centuries. Some of the animals found they could not carry on, while others were able to adapt themselves to the changes happening all around them.

One species that flourished was the canine. While their ancestors might roll over in their graves at the seemingly pampered pooches their descendants have become, they could not help but see the original instincts that remain inbred. No matter the breed or background, there remains a language between them all that is beyond our understanding, a communication that can tear down walls and traverse miles. For sake of survival, the largest can make our hearts melt with their gentleness and the smallest can hold their ground with determination.

No creature on earth has forgotten the words of the wise old owl; each continues to do their part. So, it is our task to let them keep at their work. Let us treat them with respect and appreciation, for, after all, we are helpless and silly on our own.
