(Apr. 1, 2025) — Major media reported Tuesday night that two Florida U.S. House of Representatives seats will remain in Republican hands following special elections in the first and sixth districts.
Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who represented the first district until his resignation in January, will be replaced by Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s chief financial officer.
Patronis ran against Gay Valimont, a gun-violence activist who experienced tremendous personal tragedy via the deaths of her husband and son from ALS and brain cancer, respectively.
In the sixth district, State Senator Randy Fine won against Democrat Josh Weil for the seat vacated by Michael Waltz, who President Trump chose as his national-security adviser.
According to USA Today, Weil’s campaign raised approximately $10 million, while Fine’s supporters contributed “less than a million dollars” to the race.
On TruthSocial, the president announced the wins shortly after polls closed at 8:00 p.m. EDT.
At 10:23 p.m., Trump wrote that a measure to require voter identification in Wisconsin passed; CBS 58, Milwaukee confirmed the outcome.

“It should allow us to win Wisconsin,” Trump added, “like I just did in the presidential election, for many years to come!”
According to special presidential adviser Elon Musk, it is crucial for Schimel to win in order to prevent “gerrymandering” and potential elimination of two Republican congressional seats in Wisconsin by a “liberal”-majority court. The loss of the two seats, Musk said, could alter the balance in the U.S. House of Representatives, which is currently controlled by a slender margin by Republicans.
If that were to occur, Musk told “The Five” earlier Tuesday, “there’ll be non-stop impeachment hearings…and subpoenas” to halt Trump’s second-term agenda.
