(Mar. 27, 2025) — In a TruthSocial post Thursday afternoon, President Donald Trump announced Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY21) and House Republican Conference Chair, who he nominated for United Nations ambassador and had not yet been confirmed by the Senate, would remain in the House to avoid the risk of reducing or losing Republicans’ thin majority.
“As we advance our America First Agenda, it is essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress,” Trump wrote at 2:12 p.m. “We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning. I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress to help me deliver Historic Tax Cuts, GREAT Jobs, Record Economic Growth, a Secure Border, Energy Dominance, Peace Through Strength, and much more, so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
Stefanik’s nomination was announced November 11, six days after the election which saw Trump win both the electoral and popular votes, carrying all six “swing” states.
“With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat,” Trump continued his post. “The people love Elise and, with her, we have nothing to worry about come Election Day. There are others that can do a good job at the United Nations. Therefore, Elise will stay in Congress, rejoin the House Leadership Team, and continue to fight for our amazing American People. Speaker Johnson is thrilled! I look forward to the day when Elise is able to join my Administration in the future. She is absolutely FANTASTIC. Thank you Elise!”
On January 21, Stefanik testified at a Senate confirmation hearing during which she said, “Our tax dollars should not be complicit in propping up entities that are counter to American interests, antisemitic, or engaging in fraud, corruption or terrorism.”
As reported at Big League Politics and amplified by political commentator Roger Stone on Wednesday, alleged “anti-Trump RINO” Dan Stec, a New York state senator, was seeking to take Stefanik’s seat in the House.
On its Substack BLP wrote:
State Senator Dan Stec is angling to take Elise Stefanik’s former U.S. House seat in New York’s 21st Congressional District as Stefanik is departing from the position to serve as Trump’s U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Because there will be no primary for the special election to replace Stefanik, this means both Republican and Democrat nominees will be selected by party insiders. Stec is believed to be the favorite of the New York RINO establishment because of his long history of opposing President Trump.
Stec publicly came out in opposition to Trump during his initial run for the presidency. Additionally, Stec’s name was conspicuously absent from a list of prominent New York endorsees posted by Trump in March 2024. Stec waited until after Biden’s debate debacle against Trump before finally issuing his endorsement.
On Thursday evening Stefanik wrote on her X account she will appear on “Hannity” at 9:00 p.m. EDT.

Smart move by an older and wiser President Trump!
