Reports: Dem Support for Biden Collapsing

(Jul. 18, 2024) — During the noon hour Thursday, multiple news reports appeared suggesting 2024 Democrat presumptive presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden, Jr. has lost the confidence of “party elders” such as Barack Obama, Sen. Chuck Schumer, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Adam Schiff.

Earlier in the week approximately 20 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives publicly called upon Biden to abandon his re-election bid against 45th President and now-Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump, who Biden allegedly narrowly vanquished in 2020 when Trump was the incumbent.

On Wednesday afternoon, the White House announced Biden tested “positive” for COVID-19, a virus for which Biden has reportedly been “vaccinated” and “boosted” six times.

A second scheduled appearance in Las Vegas was subsequently canceled and Biden transported to his home in Rehoboth Beach, DE to isolate and recuperate.

According to CNN, Biden may conduct video calls in furtherance of his campaign while he is in isolation.

A clamor for Biden’s exit from the race began immediately after the June 27 debate, during which Biden often verbally stumbled, made false statements and often appeared confused and tired.

Initially afterward, Obama appeared supportive of Biden by acknowledging sitting presidents can do poorly in debates, particularly the first in a campaign.

On Thursday afternoon, however, Obama’s position reportedly changed.

Even prior to the debate, some observers suggested Biden was experiencing some type of cognitive decline. More recently, Biden has exhibited difficulty with recalling names, including those of his cabinet members; maneuvering on- and off-stage independently; has inexplicably dropped his voice to a whisper during public remarks; and has directed remarks to deceased individuals.

According to epidemiologist, cardiologist and internist Dr. Peter McCullough on July 11:

Joe Biden’s appearance on film in 2019 and 2024 demonstrates a dramatic decline in cognitive function, memory, retrieval, enunciation, strength of voice, facial expression, gait, wayfinding, and motor skills such as walking up and down stairs.

Dr. McCullough appeared on the Breanna Morello show to provide analysis and commentary. While a diagnosis cannot be made without a physical exam, laboratory testing, and brain imaging, Biden’s apparent syndrome is not completely classic for Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, but has features of both conditions.

Thus far, Biden has insisted he will remain in the race, whose nature sharply changed, at least temporarily, after the assassination attempt against Trump early Saturday evening in Butler, PA.

The tragic events of Saturday killed a retired fire chief, Corey Comporatore, whose public calling hours will be held Thursday afternoon. Seriously injured were former Marine David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, both Pennsylvania residents. Trump was injured in the area of his right ear for which he continues to wear a bandage.

Demands for Biden to withdraw subsided following the shooting but resumed over the last few days.

On Wednesday Biden slowly ascended the steps to the aircraft bound for Delaware, and upon arrival in Dover, he was seen initially descending even more slowly.

According to Axios Thursday:

Several top Democrats privately tell us the rising pressure of party congressional leaders and close friends will persuade President Biden to decide to drop out of the presidential race, as soon as this weekend.

Why it matters: The 81-year-old president, now self-isolating with COVID, remains publicly dug in. But privately he’s resigned to mounting pressure, bad polls, and untenable scrutiny making it impossible to continue his campaign, the Democrats tell us.

Behind the scenes: The private message, distilled to its bluntest form: The top leaders of his party, his friends and key donors believe he can’t win, can’t change public perceptions of his age and acuity, and can’t deliver congressional majorities.

Early Thursday afternoon, The Washington Post reported Obama has told members of his close circle that Biden’s chances of re-election are “greatly diminished” and that Biden should “reconsider his viability.”

In a discussion as to who might replace Biden should he decide to withdraw from the race, Fox News’s Harris Faulkner said her “Democratic sources” at the Republican National Convention, from which she has been reporting since Monday, say Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is the frontrunner.

At the same time, Faulkner voiced the question as to how a “biracial woman,” meaning Biden’s vice president, Kamala Harris, could be “bypassed” with the approval of voters.
