(Jun. 27, 2024) — Late Wednesday night, a severe thunderstorm with winds up to 80 mph, a rarity in this area of the country, knocked out The Post & Email‘s power and cable service for the second time in less than a week.
A National Weather Service (NWS) alert on cell phones warned, within only a few minutes, of the encroaching disturbance, which proved to be as sudden and violent as predicted.
Tragically, one person in a nearby town was killed as a result of the storm, while a tree fell on a house in Windsor, CT, narrowly missing the family inside, including a three-year-old child.
Roads are blocked off, and crews have been summoned from Massachusetts and New Hampshire, we are told.
This morning our internet service provider was unable to estimate when a connection might be established, and the discovery several minutes ago of connectivity presents an unexpected opportunity to address the day’s backlog.
Severe weather driven by unusual heat has marked the nascent summer, a pattern we hope will not continue throughout the season.
Last weekend, The Post & Email was without an internet connection for nearly three days and appreciates your patience with our erratic publishing as of late. We are fortunate in that while electricity is predicted to be unavailable for several days, we are unaffected by it.
