(Jun. 4, 2024) — Shortly after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Biden’s attorney general, Merrick Garland, testified to the House Judiciary Committee in a hearing titled, “Oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice” with the stated intent to “examine how the DOJ has become politicized and weaponized under the leadership of Attorney General Merrick Garland.”
In his remarks, Garland defended the Justice Department’s denial of a subpoena from the committee and a second House committee of the audio-recording between Joe Biden and former Special Counsel Robert Hur in the latter’s investigation into why and how Biden acquired classified documents during his Senate and vice-presidential tenures.
Given the DOJ’s non-compliance with the subpoena, on May 16 Jordan and House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer held respective votes approving Garland to be held in contempt of Congress which will require a full House vote to become official.
At 10:52 a.m., Chairman Jim Jordan called for a break so committee members could participate in scheduled voting.
