(May 28, 2024) — At 12:20 p.m. EDT, Benny Johnson of “The Benny Show” is discussing with Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) the appearance of actor Robert DeNiro at a Biden “ad campaign” on the first day of closing arguments in the trial of Donald J. Trump in Manhattan on 34 counts of falsifying business records.
Acting as a Biden surrogate, DeNiro spoke a short distance from the courthouse where the trial, now in its sixth week and soon expected to conclude, resumed after a week-long break.
A longtime Trump opponent, DeNiro claimed if Trump is re-elected in November, “he will never leave” the White House and that voters must choose Biden as “the only way to preserve our freedoms and hold on to our humanity.”
Claiming New York City to be “my city,” DeNiro decried Trump as not “belonging” there, where he built his real-estate business over more than four decades and continues to employ thousands of people.
The Trump campaign held a similar presser at the same podium in which spokesman Jason Miller termed DeNiro a “washed-up actor” and “the best” the Biden campaign could “do” as Trump’s poll numbers continue to rise in what are considered key “swing” states.
On Monday night, Trump posted his observations of the nearly-six-week trial over which Judge Juan Merchan has presided. “Could somebody please ask Judge Merchan, whatever happened to MARK POMERANTZ, the man Alvin Bragg was furious at for the things he did on this contrived and unconstitutional case, and why wasn’t he allowed to testify?” Trump wrote. “Also, why did Judge Merchan not allow Brad Smith, the leading Election Law Expert in the Country, to testify. He would have ended the case quickly by explaining the Law and stating that President Trump did nothing wrong. Likewise Bob Costello, and all of his direct and irrefutable knowledge, why was he so horribly treated and completely shut down by the Conflicted Judge, and why were his Emails and Text Messages not allowed to be shown…And then, of course, there’s the BIGGEST EVENT OF THEM ALL, but I’m not allowed to talk about it because I’m under an illegal and unconstitutional GAG ORDER. This is the Biden White House at work. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!”
As reported by Matt Pieper of CBS News, “Robert De Niro gets into a shouting match with someone wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat while leaving a Biden-Harris campaign presser across the street from Trump’s criminal trial.”
According to Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung, “Crooked Joe Biden and his campaign are in complete freakout mode” and are “in bed with the highly-conflicted judge…”
Trump has long accused Biden of directing the four criminal cases brought against him as he readied to seek the presidency again.
A Twitter trend to which Johnson contributed characterized DeNiro’s behavior as a “meltdown.”
