(Nov. 17, 2023) — On Friday morning, forty-fifth president and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald J. Trump posted on his TruthSocial account that New York State Atty. Gen. Letitia James is again seeking to become the state’s governor.
As of press time at 8:44 AM EST, mainstream media outlets have not reported the development.
In 2021, James briefly sought the position but ended her campaign after garnering weak support from the electorate. She then ran for re-election to her current position, which she successfully achieved last November.
If accurate, James would challenge sitting governor Kathy Hochul (D) in a 2026 primary.
Hochul, then lieutenant governor, became governor in August 2021 after the resignation of then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo and was re-elected to a four-year term in her own right in November 2022.
Cuomo claimed James’s investigation of him regarding allegations of sexual misconduct was politically-motivated.
James is prosecuting a civil fraud case against Trump, his two adult sons and the Trump Organization which the defendants say is unwarranted and evidence of the political persecution James promised to deliver during her first attorney-general campaign in 2018.
New York State Atty. Gen. Letitia James should be disbarred for unethical legal practices.
