Spread the love

Dear Editor,

Wimbledon match, 2007 (public domain)

We already have the spectacle of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sullying the British Crown; will we now see the All England Tennis Club further trash William Blake’s, “And did those feet in ancient time, Walk upon England’s mountains green?…” by having again invited, “I’m not gonna conform to a bunch of old rules…” and “If I win Wimbledon, it’s like a middle finger to everyone,” previous breaker of Wimbledon contracts Nick Kyrgios, who laughingly and thus so derisively says of playing in the All England Tennis Club’s 2023 Wimbledon Tournament’s ‘Gentlemen’s Singles’…”I’m going to diss all the legends of the sport”?

Though sympathising with the sensationally brilliant Kyrgios’s mental health suffering (which many hundreds of other top tennis players have no doubt endured), this Aussie would love to see an Aussie win Wimbledon, but certainly not such an ungentlemanly, obnoxious Australian as Nick Kyrgios! Why? Because last year Kyrgios “F”-bombed in the very presence of very young British royalty; despicably spat towards spectators (which he did again, along with terrifying a ball boy with a dangerously hurled racquet in the US); and then, without a doubt, broke his 2022 contract with the All England Tennis Club when he wore bright, red-coloured apparel while accepting Wimbledon’s 2022 Runner Up Trophy (and of course $1,550,00 prize money from the All England Tennis Club), along with his appalling on-court conduct!

Kyrgios might desperately need Wimbledon; however, Wimbledon (and the whole tennis world) is not that desperate, because the All England Tennis Club has truly professional ascending young-gun, by far in the main, gentlemen in De Minaur (an Aussie), Alcaraz, Sinner, Korda, Draper, Musetti, Rune, Auger-Alliassime, and Ruud, to invite! Kyrgios (and all his excusers/admirers) was simply not needed if Wimbledon, and professional tennis as a whole, were to have remained credible!

Yours,
