(Sep. 13, 2022) — Electric cars are not new; in fact, the first electric-powered car appeared in the late 19th century. Admittedly, they’ve come a long way in 120+ years but are still prohibitively costly to own, unreliable in meeting the owner’s many needs (particularly in colder climates), and are overly demanding of one’s time in order to keep the batteries charged.
The cost and reliability issues have been debated for many years now, but more details regarding their design flaws are emerging, e.g., our Customs and Border Control personnel were given hundreds of EV’s, but they are unable to power their radios and auxiliary units. Why, you may ask? Simple. These units have two (2) batteries; one is for control and starting, and the other for the drive train. So, if the control battery is dead, you cannot start the car, even if the drive battery is 100% charged. It sounds as if these units are useless; call the tow truck!
Most folks know that internal combustion engines are generally equipped with an alternator (sometimes a generator), so there is always electric power while the engine is running for lights, heater and defroster fans, radios, etc., even when the engine is idling. Anyone who tells you we’ll have all electric vehicles in a few years is either very naïve or a blind ideologue.
As for the Dims, don’t ask them for an opinion; most cannot even change a flat tire. The midterms are in exactly 56 days; I hope you’re ready.
Spot on, I am the proud owner of a 2005 f250 4×4 Lariat crew cab with 300k, it’s”Bullet proofed” now, as long as you change oil every 5k, check everything weekly and have some mechanical ability, it will last a long time, and with a 8 inch lift and 37s, I can go pretty much anywhere, I get about 18mpg, so I’m not in the market. Oh yeah, and Biden/ dems suck!
If you want to get 15 MPG or so better mileage try the hybrid version of what you are considering, if there is one. Cost difference payback time is about 3 years, (most people keep their cars much longer than that) and you never have to worry about being stranded with depleted batteries. Just keep gas in the tank and you can keep on going……….
